Julianne Jackman Nielson

Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother Julianne Jackman Nielson graduated from this earth life on December 7, 2023, surrounded by family.

Juli was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on March 14, 1943. She was the youngest child and only daughter of Mark and Carrie Jackman. Juli grew up with three older brothers and had another brother who died in infancy. As the last living member of that immediate family, she was looking forward to a glorious reunion.

Juli lived most of her life in Holladay, Utah, a suburb of Salt Lake City. She graduated from Granite High School and the University of Utah. While she was a student at "the U" she met her best friend and forever partner, Maurice D. Nielson. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on September 4, 1964. He returned to heaven in May of 2023, and she has been waiting to join him ever since.

Juli followed her father and grandfather into the field of elementary education. She taught at Holladay Elementary, then shifted her focus and energy to raising a family of six daughters and one son, along with a beloved bonus daughter. As one daughter said, “She was a Mom. That says nothing, and that says everything." Juli was still raising the youngest of her own children when grandchildren started to come along, and she joyfully helped care for what eventually numbered thirty grandchildren and then for her great-grandchildren. This humble and selfless woman taught her family about love, service, and the joy of living a Christ-centered life.

When she wasn’t busy with her family (and also when she was), Juli could be found serving anyone else who crossed her path. She had the remarkable ability to see and respond to everyone she met with understanding, acceptance, and generosity of spirit. She understood people’s strengths and their weaknesses and loved them for who they were, while supporting them for who they would become. To her very last days she reached out to all of her neighbors – the other residents in her building – doing her best to make everyone feel welcomed, valued, and loved.

None have better embodied President Russell M. Nelson’s description: “As mother, teacher, and nurturing Saint, in partnership with God, her divine mission is to help spirits live and souls be lifted. This is the measure of her creation.”

This amazing woman will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her, but especially by her family: Carrie and Tom Milligan, Holly and Rich Riding, Marci and Mike Tribe, Noni and Mike Smith, Stacie Johnson, Susan and Roy Gedge, Mark and Erin Nielson, Amber and Chase Holladay; thirty grandchildren and seven spouses; and eleven great-grandchildren.

The family expresses heart-felt appreciation to the staff members of Abbington Senior Living of Layton and of Inspiration Hospice and Home Health for their loving and respectful care of both Juli and Maurice over the past year. They are especially grateful for their earthly angel, Paige Gomm, for her tender expert care.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 14, at the Holladay North Stake Center, 4395 South Albright Drive, Holladay Utah. Friends and family are invited to visit beginning at 10 AM. Arrangements are being managed by Memorial Holladay-Cottonwood Mortuary.
