Junius Dean Heaton (JD), age 74, passed away peacefully in his home on June 16, 2026, surrounded by the family who loved him so dearly. A lifelong resident of Salt Lake City, Utah, JD was born on June 30, 1951, to Max and Garda Heaton. He was a proud alum of the University of Utah. He remained a dedicated fan throughout his life, rarely missing an opportunity to cheer on the Utes.
JD was a dedicated public servant, spending 30 years working for the Utah State Tax Commission. He cultivated and cherished many lifelong friendships throughout his career.
JD was known for his warm, friendly, and welcoming nature. He had a rare ability to make everyone he met feel comfortable and valued. His easygoing personality, kindness, and steady presence left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Above all else, JD was a devoted family man. He is survived by his beloved wife, Karen, who was the center of his world. He is also survived by his brothers, Larry (Connie) and Doug (Susan). He leaves behind a proud legacy through his children: Brig (Amy), Adam (Lindsey), Sarah (John), Megan (Lance), Monica (Josh), Melanie (Russell), and Zachary. He was also the proud grandfather of 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of whom brought immense joy to his life.

His smile and the genuine goodness he brought into the world will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
