Karen Lynn Barbour

Karen L. Barbour, age 84, was born on October 12, 1941, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Paul A. Krause and Mary Lynn Robinson-Krause.

Karen graduated from Window Rock High School in 1959 and went on to attend LDS Business College for two years. In 1960, she married Leonard J. Davis, (Cindy, Karlene, Ricky) They later divorced. Karen eventually met the love of her life, Byrl H. Barbour. They were married on September 13, 1971, bringing together six children—Randy, Debbie, Walt, Cindy, Karlene, and Ricky—and creating what became known as the “Barbour Bunch.” Karen was blessed to stay home and devote her time to raising their growing family. Wanting a home where all six children could have room to grow, Karen and Byrl decided to build a home in Blake Heights in Bennion, Utah. It became a special place where their family could grow, gather, and make countless memories together.

Karen truly made their house a home. She loved planting and tending to her flower gardens, keeping the house clean and beautifully decorated, and filling the kitchen with the wonderful smells of delicious desserts and homemade bread. Some of the best conversations and cherished memories happened gathered around the kitchen counter. Karen loved capturing memories through photographs and creating photo albums filled with pictures of her family. She enjoyed crocheting beautiful blankets and washcloths, often making things with love for the people she cared about. And then there was her famous obsession with Ziploc baggies! If something could be stored in a baggie, Karen found a way to organize it in one. She could bag and organize just about anything—a little quirk that her family will always remember and smile about.

After her children were grown, Karen decided to return to the workforce. She began working at UPS, where she remained until her retirement.

Karen had a special way of making everyone feel like a friend from the moment they met. She was always willing to lend a listening ear and genuinely cared about the people in her life. Her kindness, generosity, and sincere concern for others touched the hearts of everyone who knew her.

She was surrounded by her loved ones as she stepped into her heavenly home, where she was welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus.

She is survived by, brothers, Stephen Krause (Cynthia), Tom Krause (Yvonne). Children, Randy Barbour (Jean), Debbie Trujillo (Jerry), Walt Barbour (Donna), Cindy Dewey (Derek), Karlene Tracy (Jack), Carrie Davis (Rick)

She is preceded in death by Mary Lynn Robinson (Mother), Paul A. Krause (Father), Byrl H. Barbour (Husband), Astrid Barbour (Daughter in law), Ricky B. Davis (Son)

A special thank you to Legacy Rehab Center in Taylorsville, Utah, for the excellent care and compassion they provided to our mother during her healing and recovery.

We are also incredibly grateful to Active HHH and their amazing hospice team for the compassion, kindness and support they provided during such a difficult and emotional time. We will always be grateful for the comfort they brought our mother and all of us.

There will be a Memorial Service held on Saturday, October 3rd at 11:00 AM at the Redwood Memorial Mortuary, 6500 South Redwood Road West Jordan, Utah 84123. An hour prior Visitation will take place before the service, starting at 10:00 AM in the Redwood Memorial Mortuary. Once the service is complete, there will be a Graveside held in the Redwood Memorial Cemetery at 12:00 PM.

A luncheon will be held at Intermountain Baptist Church proceeding graveside service, at 4770 S 1950 W, Taylorsville, Utah, 84129.

In lieu of flowers, please donate in Karen's name to the Taylorsville Food Pantry.
