Karl Edwin Smith passed away peacefully at his home on August 14th, 2024, at the age of 56.
Karl was born on March 28th, 1968, in Anchorage, Alaska to Peggy Ann-Allred Smith and Russell Edwin Smith. The family eventually relocated back to Ogden, Utah where he spent his childhood. He attended Ben Lomond High School and, at just 21 years old, earned a degree in Logistics Management from Weber State University. Shortly after, he moved to Cape Canaveral, Florida where he worked with Rockwell Engineering as a logistics expert, taking great pride in his role in the space shuttle program.
After living in Florida for several years, Karl returned back to Ogden to be closer to his parents. He transitioned from logistics to the mortgage business and continued to build his career in the field until the very end. He had a deep passion for his work that extended into every aspect of his life. His ability to connect with people was remarkable and his friendships spanned decades and distances. He moved to Oahu, Hawaii in 2018 to expand his business - embracing the island life and its community. However his deep love for his family brought him back yet again to Utah where he could be closer to his daughter Sophie and stepson Alec. Karl loved being a father and took immense pride in his children. He cherished the moments spent with family and close friends and his enthusiasm for even the smallest things will be missed. We are forever grateful for the time we had with him and know that his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
Karl is survived by his two children, Sophie Smith and Alec Child. He was preceded in death by his mother, Peggy Ann-Allred Smith, his father, Russell Edwin Smith, and his aunt, Francis Wheeler.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 30th, at 1pm in the Ogden City Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to attend and share their memories. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to his friends, and workplace - Castle and Cooke Mortgage - that provided their support during this time. We all miss and love you, Karl.
