Life is a precious gift and MorMor loved every moment; whether jumping off waterfalls and swimming with dolphins with family, planning parties for her grandkids or serving in the temple. Family traditions were important, especially Christmas traditions such as making krumkake and rice pudding. She treasured the gospel and cherished her testimony of the Savior Jesus Christ. Kathy returned to the arms of her Heavenly Father on December 17, 2022 at the age of 68.
Born June 15, 1954, Kathy came into the world with a smile and energy for life. She was ready to embrace and love all she came in contact with. She grew up in Sugarhouse with her parents (Phyl and Edith), three brothers (Steve, Mike, Troy), and cousins nearby. They enjoyed road trips and prioritized visiting family. Norwegian heritage was a focal part of their lives with Edith being raised in Norway. Kathy cherished her trip to Norway with her mom and siblings where they enjoyed visiting friends and family, and were overwhelmed with kake (cake).
She attended Highland High School, then graduated from BYU with a degree in Nursing. Kathy met Gary in 9th grade in Ms. Potkins’ class and they started dating in 11th grade. They married in the Provo Utah temple June 7, 1975 and raised their family in Hunter and Cottonwood Heights. They later settled in South Jordan where they made new friends and were close to their children and their families. They were blessed with 4 children Alysia, Miranda, Blake, and Brianne. Anytime Kathy talked with others, her focus was always on her children and their successes, her 12 amazing grandchildren, and her faith. Her days consisted of attending sporting events, recitals, and concerts of her grandchildren as she was always their biggest and loudest fan.
Kathy spent countless hours serving the Lord in various callings. One of her favorite places to serve was the temple. In 2005, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints announced a new temple to be built up the street from her home. When the Oquirrh Mountain Temple was dedicated in 2009, she was invited to be a temple worker. She served for 13 years and loved being in the temple with her temple ladies. “Wherefore, stand ye in holy places, and be not moved, until the day of the Lord come; for behold, it cometh quickly, saith the Lord. Amen.” – D&C 87:8
