Kathrine “Kathy” B. Shank

April 5, 1950 — August 26, 2023

Kathy gained her butterfly wings on August 26, 2023, at the age of 73 in Salt Lake City. When Kathy drew her last breath, she was with her daughters, granddaughters, and sons-in-law surrounded with love.
She was born on April 5, 1950, in Lincoln, Nebraska to Warren Shank and Birdine Mohr. She was the middle of five children, Judy, James, Dale, and Bonnie. When she was little, she moved to the Salt Lake Valley where she attended Oquirrh Elementary, David Gourley Elementary, Kearns Jr. High, and was part of the graduating class of 1969 from Kearns High School.
After high school, she met and married Robert in 1973 where she became an instant mom to Shauna and Tami (mom was so very honored to get to love you both!). Kathy then had three children, a son named Byron who was born in 1973 at seven months old, and although she only held him for a short time, she loved him very much. Then in 1974, she gave birth to her daughter Barbara, and then again in 1976 to another daughter Stephanie. Kathy was an amazing mother. She was everything to her two daughters and they were everything to her. They shared an incredible and unique bond so powerful that it created a love and relationship that is so rare, that few could understand it. In 1998 Kathy received the amazing gift of becoming a grandma to Miranda and then again in 2010 to Megan. She began to forge that same unique special bond with her granddaughters to her very last breath. She loved her girls so very much! We will always be her GIRL’S.
Kathy had a very special demeanor, with a kind and caring heart. Kathy worked at Varian Medical Systems for 25 years. Kathy loved many things; she loved listening to music, especially country music and the Beatles. She was an avid bowler in her younger years, she loved Star Trek, The X-Files, and Fringe. She loved reading books, and her favorite was Stephen King novels. She also enjoyed sewing, needle pointing, crocheting and cross stitching, but her most recent passion was doing her diamond art which she really excelled at.
Kathy will be loved always. We will miss her smile and her silly ways. We love you MOM!
Hath is preceded in death by her loving father Warren, her brother Dale, and her son Byron. She is survived by her mother Birdine, her daughters Barbara (Lance), and Stephanie (David), her granddaughters Miranda and Megan along with sisters Judy and Bonnie and her brother James.
