Kathryn Bryner Christensen, age 75, passed away on January 7, 2026 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born on November 8, 1950 to Alma Lloyd Bryner and Eunice Mae Stout Bryner. She married Warren Maiben Christensen on August 8, 1980.
Kathryn graduated from the University of Utah with a bachelor’s degree. She played the viola and played in the Mormon Youth Orchestra for several years. She also played in the orchestra that accompanied the production of “Promised Valley” that was put on one summer at Temple Square. She loved classical music and when listening to it in the car she preferred that the volume be turned loud enough that she felt like she was sitting in the middle of the orchestra. For many years she made a collection of Christmas music and burned it onto CDs which she gave to family and friends for Christmas gifts.
Kathy was an active member of The Church of Jesus-Christ of Latter-day Saints her whole life. In her young adult years she often had the church calling to teach classes of the younger children. She also served as a Den Mother in the Cub Scout for several years. At one time she served as the secretary of the Relief Society in her ward. Later, she had the calling of one of the librarians in the ward library. She helped keep the audio visual materials organized so that the Sunday School teachers had the right pictures to help illustrate their lessons. She developed strong friendships with the other women who also worked in the library with her. In her later years, when she did not have the stamina for a two hour block of meetings, she still tried to attend Sacrament Meeting on days when she had the energy to do so.
Kathy met her husband, Warren, in church at a Singles ward which he often visited with a friend. After they started dating, he found out that her brother lived in his home ward. They were married on August 8, 1980, in the Salt Lake Temple. Their first home was in West Valley, Utah. It was while living in West Valley that their son, Peter, was born. They later moved to Holliday, Utah, and most recently have been living in South Salt Lake, Utah.
Kathy loved to read and was instrumental in helping her son learn to read. She enjoyed searching the internet for healthy recipes that she collected.
Kathy has had health problems much of her adult life. She suffered from kidney disease, but thanks to a donated kidney from her niece, she enjoyed an extra 25 years of life. In the end she had to go back onto dialysis, but it was as much heart problems as kidney problems that were more than her body could take.
Kathryn is survived by her husband, Warren Maiben Christensen and their son Peter Lloyd Christensen; her sisters Vaudys Dummer (Laird) and Carolyn Losee (Lyman); her brothers Jay Clifford Bryner (Susan) and Duane Joseph Bryner (Alaina).
She was preceded in death by her parents Alma Lloyd Bryner and Eunice Mae Stout Bryner, a sister Marsha Anderson (Frank) and a brother Lowell LaVoy Bryner (Karin).
