After a life of giving to others, Kay Bernson peacefully returned home to his Heavenly Father on February 7, 2014. He was born on September 3, 1931 to Karl Arthur Bernson and Leone Pinney in Salt Lake City, Utah. After graduating from South High School, Kay set records as a running back at the University of Utah. He went on to the Air Force Academy where he served his country as a captain in the United States Air Force. Kay married the love of his life, Janice Ann Sevy, "Trixie", on April 15, 1958. Later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on March 12, 1971.
He worked as a regional sales manager for Smith Kline Beecham where he made many life-long friends. He loved his adventures on Yellowstone Lake fishing with his sweetheart, Trixie. Kay enjoyed painting with his dear friend and teacher Pete Petersen. Everyone anticipated the Santa he painted every year. He shared it with those he loved as a Christmas card from he and Trixie. Every day was Christmas for Kay. He was always giving and never a day went by when 'the candy man' didn't have a treat for you. More importantly he had a deep love for his Savior and would usually be found with his scriptures. The greatest gift he gave us all was his Christ like example of unconditional love and dedication to helping others. He served faithfully in his church callings giving his whole heart wherever he was needed. His family was his pride and joy and nothing brought him more happiness than being together, where he could tease and play with his grandchildren. He had a way of making you feel like you were the most important person in the world, in every way. He was truly a gentle giant.
Kay is survived by his loving wife Jan, children: Jeff, (Stephanie), Cappey, (Kent) Jones, Greg, (Wendi), Lisa,(Dorothy), Stephanie, (Matthew) Kirk, eighteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and brother Neal, (Diana), and countless friends. Special thanks to his dear friends Todd Harris, Pete Petersen, Kyle Meadows and "Jones". He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Roger.
