Keith Temple

June 4, 1917 — October 23, 2012

Keith Temple, age 95, passed away on October 23, 2012 in the University Hospital following surgery surrounded by family.

Keith Temple was born June 4, 1917 in Salt Lake City to Thomas Temple and Margaret Ellen Walker Temple, the second of three sons. His mother died when he was 12. Later his father was married to Florence Evans Barnett, adding a new sister and brother to his family. He attended South High School and the University of Utah. During World War II he served in the Merchant Marines in the South Pacific and always flew the flag on holidays. He used his accounting and business skills throughout his life. He was a broker for a line of candy products and then opened his own cleaning supplies business, Super Supplies. He later purchased Magic Chemical, which he sold when he retired. Keith loved golf, playing in state amateur tournaments when young and with wonderful groups of friends as he got older. He served as Secretary of the Utah Golf Association for several years.

Keith met the love of his life and best friend, Ruth Patricia McDonald, in his teens. They were married October 18, 1939, and had just celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary. They were parents of four children, one of whom died shortly after birth. There are ten grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and others added by marriage. He was an exceptional husband, father, grandfather, and brother.

Keith was raised in the Congregational Church, of which he had fond memories. At age 38, he became a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served faithfully the rest of his life. He was a bishop during that time, an opportunity he appreciated for the rest of his life. He loved children and youth and regularly took candy to church with him to share with the children. He was faithful to the end, being released as a home teacher only earlier this year in order to spend the necessary time taking care of his dear wife. Up to the end, he was more concerned for the well-being of his wife than he was for himself.

Keith is survived by his wife, Patricia, and his children Anthony R. (Mary K) Temple, Pamela R. (Brent) Evans, and Lance M. (Peggy) Temple, and step-brother, Gerson Barnett. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Thomas and Craig, step-sister, Anita Barnett Scheller, and daughter, Lauren.
