Kenneth Eugene Mead (91) of Orem, Utah passed away peacefully on May 7, 2023 at Utah Valley Hospital in Provo, Utah after complications from multiple medical conditions.
Kenneth was born on November 1, 1931 in Richland Center, Wisconsin to Edmund Mead and Maria Myrtle Lydia Rano. He was raised on the family farm in Cazenovia, Wisconsin (Hub City) and spent his high school years in Madison, Wisconsin. It was there that he met the love of his life, Betty Jane Petrie. They were married on January 6, 1951 in Dubuque, Iowa. They were later sealed in the St. George Temple on their 45th wedding anniversary in 1996.
Ken spent the majority of his professional career in sales. He held many management positions with various companies and retired from D & K Trucking Company as President and co-owner.
After 42 years in East Lansing, Michigan, Ken and Betty Jane moved to St. George, Utah where they fell in love with the red rock of southern Utah. They built their retirement home in Ivins where Ken was very active in the Red Cliffs 8th Ward. He was a dedicated home teacher (minister) and served faithfully in many callings. He was a wonderful neighbor and friend.
Ken was an avid sports fan, spending many days on golf courses throughout the country. He loved golf so much that he bought a golf course in Michigan so that he could golf every day. He watched all sports on TV and was a fan of his beloved Green Bay Packers.
Ken chose to be baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Once he made that decision he never looked back and was faithful to the end.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings; James Edward, Marjorie Jeanett, David Ernest, and Doris Marie.
Ken is survived by his wife and four children; Jerry (Lisa) of Bath, Michigan, Mark (Pam) of Crofton, Maryland, Mary Staub (David) of Orem, and Daniel of Lansing, Michigan. His greatest joy came from his six grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
A Memorial Graveside service to celebrate Ken’s life will be held on Saturday June 17, 2023 at 11 AM. Held at Lake Hills Cemetery, 10055 South State Street, Sandy Utah.Service Information
