Papa was born November 3, 1924 and passed February 27, 2016. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Alfred and Ida Maycock Gempeler. Graduated South High in 1943 and joined the Air Force. He was a Bombardier - Navigator flying B-17's during WWII. Returned home and married Barbara Hamilton on July 22, 1945. They were happily married for 71 years. Ken opened Ken's Automotive Service in downtown Salt Lake in 1955 and continued as the most honest and best Ford mechanic in Salt Lake until he retired in 1993. He loved all sports, especially anything with the Utes. Loved to golf and spent winters in Beaver Dam, Arizona. Learned to hunt, fish and camp at an early age with his father and uncle and enjoyed being outdoors.
Survived by wife, Barbara; 2 sons, Robert (Kim), K. Reed (Andrea); 4 grandkids – Robert (Jenny) Conner, Andee (Joel) and Ali, 3 great-grandkids, Mitchell, Brady and Hudson; sister, Jean; and many loving nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by brother, Robert David Gempeler and parents.
Papa did not want a funeral. We will have a celebration of life at a later date. No flowers please. Make a contribution to your favorite charity in Ken's name and remember to hug the ones you love everyday!
