Kenneth Hawkes Steiner passed away while at home surrounded by family, and returned home to our Father in Heaven on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 after an extremely sudden, yet short battle with acute leukemia. We find great comfort knowing this is goodbye for only a short time because our Savior has provided the way for us to reunite as a family.
He was born on May 25, 1933 to Glendon Eugene and Eva Hawkes Steiner in Richfield, Utah. He graduated from West High School where he enjoyed track and field and particularly throwing the javelin. Following high school he was drafted into the United States Army where he served from 1953-55 during the Korean War conflict. He married Evangeline Ratcliffe on October 8, 1954 in the Salt Lake Temple. He later attended the University of Utah where he graduated with a bachelor degree in Accounting. For the majority of his professional career he worked in the life insurance industry where he was initially employed by Ideal National, then later, for the greater part of his career by Beneficial Life, retiring at the end of 1998. He loved his family and was always quick to share a short story, joke, or wisecrack to his grandchildren and great grandchildren or anyone who would listen.
He was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings throughout his life. One of his fondest callings was that of bishop in the Butler First Ward. Following retirement from his professional career he served in the Salt Lake Temple for fourteen years concluding his service at the time the temple was closed for renovation. He was an avid reader enjoying historical volumes as well as many LDS church related authors.
Kenneth is preceded in death by his wife Evangeline, his parents, his brothers Richard, Glendon and sister Margene. He is survived by children: Victor, Pamela Boshard (Steven), Lyndon (Monica), Janet Davis (Benjamin), and Reed (Sandra), his brother David, his sisters: Marilyn, Virginia, and Gloria, and his 28 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
We would like to thank the wonderful staff and medical team at Crescent Senior Living and Canyon Home Care & Hospice who provided sincere friendships and offered such diligent and loving care during the last weeks and days of his declining condition. Viewings will be held in his honor Friday, September 27, 2024 from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday, September 28, 2024 from 12-12:45 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ Canyon Ridge Ward Chapel located at 2695 East 7000 South, Cottonwood Heights, Utah. The funeral will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at the same location. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Mortuaries & Cemeteries 5850 South 900 East. Interment will be held at Memorial Mountain View Cemetery 3115 East 7800 South, Cottonwood Heights, Utah.
