Kolomitoni Mataele, beloved father, grandfather, and devoted servant of the Lord, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2025, at the age of 73. He was born on May 31, 1952, in Te’ekiu, Tongatapu, Tonga, to Heamasi Latu and Neomai Lolo Mataele.
Affectionately known as Toni, he lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service. A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Toni faithfully fulfilled many callings throughout his life. One of his most cherished roles was serving as a missionary in the Family History Center, where he found great joy in helping others discover their ancestors and heritage.
Toni’s devotion to service extended far beyond the walls of the church. Known for his kind heart and ever-present willingness to help. He was a source of comfort and support to friends, neighbors, and even strangers. Many loved ones fondly recall the time they spent living with him and the countless ways he generously offered help and guidance.
Toni was well known for his tough love, especially toward his sons, grandsons, and nephews, many of whom credit their success to the lessons he instilled in them. Though he experienced physical limitations later in life, they never held him back. He continued to travel the world, launch new business ventures, and show up faithfully to the countless family, friends & community events that filled his calendar. His determination and presence were constants in the lives of those he loved.
He is survived by his seven loving children: Lori Kirkland (George III), Crystalin Dunn (Scott), Cecilia Paluvava'u Holani (Vaiangina), Siosaia Delingham, Sionelolo Manaia (Luseane), Heamasi Latu (Lea'aepine), and Tangikimoana Mataele. His legacy also lives on through his 33 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense pride and joy. He is also survived by his brothers Tutulupeatau (Etiliana), Sione Hafoka (Sianne), Feleti (Neomai), Samuela (the late Alamoni), Esei (Malia), Maika (Lavinia), and many nieces and nephews.
Toni is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Tupouniua (living Pelenaise) and Sionelolo; and his beloved sister, ‘Ofakipouono (Talite).
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM at 3300 S 4440 W, West Valley City, Utah. The graveside service will follow at 2:30 PM at Valley View Memorial Park, located at 4335 W 4100 S, West Valley City, Utah. Family and friends are warmly invited to attend and celebrate his life.
Kolomitoni Mataele will be remembered for his unwavering faith, gentle spirit, and deep love for his family and community. Though he will be greatly missed, his legacy lives on in the hearts and lives of those he touched.
