Kurt C. Decker died on March 21, 2024 in West Jordan, Utah. He was born in Evanston, Wyoming on July 21, 1958 to Clifford R Decker and June Shurtleff Strong Decker.
Kurt graduated from Evanston High School, Evanston, Wyoming. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was an Elder in the Melchizedek Priesthood. He loved music and loved listening to it on his iPod and Amazon tablet.
Kurt loved maps and liked to find all kinds of places and locals on his digital devices and fold out travel maps. He had many states’ Road Atlas’s. He knew all the names of the mountain peaks surrounding the Salt Lake Valley and other localities in the west. He loved to travel with family, especially through Yellowstone and the Tetons and other spots in Wyoming
Kurt was born with several mental and physical disabilities that required him to be attended to his entire life. He was diagnosed with autism and other psychological problems. He was diagnosed with diabetes in later life and became blind in one eye. He was very smart in many ways and was always kind and had a sweet nature.
Kurt had a passion for trains and the railroads. He loved watching the trains that went past his home in Evanston and was very saddened to hear the depot in Evanston closed and trains no longer stopped there. He loved reading about trains in magazines, especially passenger trains.
Kurt loved his family and was always happy to see them and loved everyone around him especially relatives.
He had a fascination about the afterlife and talked about it often, He wanted to know what it would be like. He prayed that there would be trains in Heaven.
Kurt is survived by his brother, Lawrence Strong (Bess) of Allendale, South Carolina; his sister, Anita Strong VanLieshout of West Jordan, Utah; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by father, Cliff Decker; mother, June Decker; brother, Joe Strong; sister, Patricia Dailey; and brother-in laws, Pete VanLieshout and Jim Dailey.
Funeral service for Kurt will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at Memorial Murray Mortuary, 5850 South 900 East, Murray, Utah 84121. A time for gathering and sharing memories will begin at 1:00. Interment will follow the service in Memorial Redwood Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Road.
The family would like to thank the employees of West Jordan Care Center who provided for his daily care as well as many fun adventures.
