Our family would like to announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, La Vern Snow who died on May 14, 2026 in Green Valley, Arizona, at the age of 94. He was born on December 1, 1931 in Bicknell, Utah to Charles Clyde Snow and Janetta Rymer. He married Jeannette (Jan) Ann Woodmansee on April 30, 1955 in Elko, Nevada. He is survived by his children Robert (Gail) Snow, Wendy (John) Kunzler, Julie (Kevin) Connors and Stacy Snow, including 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, his step-sister Rose Benson, and his nephew Steven (Sandra) Villarreal, who he loved and treated as a son. He is preceded in death by his parents, his beautiful wife Jan, his brother Marlin and sister Lena.
Vern was raised in southern Utah, in the town of Grover until he was 10 years old. He was the oldest child of Janetta and Charles Snow, his brother Marlin followed, then his little sister Lena. The family moved to Salt Lake City into a new home that had just been built on the outside of town (known as Rose Park). Vern went to Onequa Elementary, Jackson Jr High, and West High School, as did all of his children. After graduation, Vern went to into the Navy where he spent five years. While in the Navy he traveled to the far east, Japan, Korea, and other islands. Vern was in Japan when the Korean war started and he was there when it ended. He participated in amphibious landings and withdrawals in Korea. After the service, Vern went to work at Mendenhall’s Auto, then to Eimco, and ended up at Litton Systems. He started at Litton as a machinist and then went into the Electronics department. Later he became a purchasing agent and then senior buyer. He retired from Litton after 35 years of service. Dad had an appendicitis operation October 27, 1975, at St Marks Hospital. During his time in the hospital, he took a turn for the worse, which became very serious with high temperature. The doctors performed an exploratory operation on November 4, 1975, where they discovered a blockage in his intestine, and a section of his intestine had to be surgically removed. We were so grateful to Heavenly Father for sparing Dad’s life and for all the many blessings he gives us.
After being set up on a blind date by his uncle Emery, Vern and Jan fell in love. Dad learned that Mom had a boy just over a year old. He loved Mom and her young child. He became a father to that young boy and then added three daughters making a wonderful family. Vern and Jan raised their family in Rose Park, Salt Lake City, Utah. This would be their home for many, many years.
Vern enjoyed searching for family members names and histories, just as his mother did. He came from strong pioneer heritage including Snow, Hanks, Rymer, Stewart, and Browning lineages. He also enjoyed golfing with friends and family. He loved golfing in Hawaii with his grandchildren on the beautiful Koolina golf course. Dad also enjoyed bowling and was in several bowling leagues with Jan, and sometimes his children. Dad and mom enjoyed making the yard beautiful and sitting out in their yard. Dad was also the handyman for the house. He had a great sense of humor and loved to watch Johnny Carson and Saturday Night Live. He loved western movies, country music and road trips. In 2015, his daughter Wendy and son-in-law John, took Dad on a long road trip back east and traveled through many states including Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Washington DC, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona which he greatly enjoyed.
Dad acted as caretaker for Jan for several years as her health deteriorated. Mom passed away December 21, 2011 at LDS hospital. The whole family was together when she was taken home to her parents and loved ones. After she passed away, Dad moved to Surprise, Arizona, to be with his brother Marlin, where again he acted as caretaker to Marlin. Dad out-lived his brother and sister. He took care of and loved his siblings, including his sibling’s children. He sold the home in Surprise and moved to Green Valley where he lived with his daughter and son-in-law for several years until his death. Wendy and John were very dedicated and took the best care of him during that time. We as a family thank Wendy and John Kunzler for the unconditional loving care of our father!
