LaRae Hurst Kramer

"Mother"

LaRae Hurst Kramer died Sunday, December 21st, at the age of 77. The end was ultimately rapid, after what was a relatively pain-free year-and-a-half with cancer. She died at the home of her son, Brad, and his wife, Teri, and was surrounded by her children.

She was born May 17th, 1931, to Samuel and Ida Hurst. She was the third of four children from that marriage and is survived by her siblings, Cleo (Frank) Bailey, Paul (Myrna) Hurst, and Carol (Rulon, deceased) Briggs, as well as her brother-in-law, Ralph (Nancy) Kramer. She married Hyrum Alvin Kramer on September 10, 1951 in the Salt Lake Temple. He preceded her in death in December of 1992. She was also preceded in death by her half-sister, Inez Kenner.

LaRae was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a life-long teacher, and a respected scriptorian. She was everything from a part-time lunch lady to a full-time missionary, all of which reflect a lifetime of service to others. More than any of those things she wanted to be remembered, first and foremost, as a mother. She and Hy had ten children, five boys and five girls. She loved watching jaws hit the floor when people heard those numbers. Her children were her life's work and her family is her legacy. She would not have wanted it any other way.

She is survived by her children, Neal (Leila) Kramer, Julie (Kevin) Prusse, Jan (Terry) Cortese, Brad (Teri) Kramer, Lisa (Mori) Paulsen, Barry (Jodi) Kramer, Mark (Tammy) Kramer, Stacey (Brent) Keown, Liz (Darryl) Schieving, Jon (Jenny) Kramer, 30 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, December 29, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Valley View 4th Ward, 2125 East Evergreen Ave (3435 South). Friends may visit with the family Sunday evening at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and at the church Monday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service. Online condolences may be sent to the family at: www.holbrookmortuary.com. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested contributions to the Church Perpetual Education Fund or the Huntsman Cancer Institute.

Mom would want it said that she loved her Savior and had an unwavering testimony of His atonement and the resurrection. She was at peace and ready to go. The family wishes to convey their overwhelming gratitude to loving staffs at the Huntsman Cancer Institute and Rocky Mountain Hospice for making this experience as comfortable as possible.
