Lareen Stevens Peters, age 59, passed away at home on January 4, 2026, after complications from a long and courageous battle with lung cancer.
Lareen was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on March 28, 1966, to Larry Philip Stevens and Janeen Weyland Stevens. She enjoyed her childhood growing up in San Diego, California, before moving back to Salt Lake City in 1976.
She converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at age ten, and was a valiant and faithful member to the end. Her great faith led to the conversion of her brother, mother, and father.
She served a Spanish speaking mission in San Bernardino, California and attended BYU Provo, where she pursued her Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development, finishing her degree at the University of Utah in 1990.
Lareen poured her heart into her children and grandchildren. She personally taught her children to read and type when they were very young, went to great lengths to instill moral values in her children, and always encouraged them to pursue their dreams and hobbies.
As a child, Lareen learned to knit and crochet from her grandmother, and enjoyed that hobby throughout her life, using her talent to create projects to bless others.
Lareen had a great love of family history work and a deep desire to make sure her ancestors were remembered. This led to many hours spent diligently researching and writing biographies. Thanks to her great work, their stories will live on and forever be enjoyed by their descendants.
Best known for her warm and outgoing personality, Lareen had a gift for connecting with others, and carried a heart full of love and empathy. She had a gift for listening, and somehow always knew just what to say. She had a light heart, was a great appreciator of her own sense of humor, and loved a good joke and a clever pun.
Lareen had a unique talent for bearing one another's burdens and seeing individual needs. She was deeply loving and extremely generous; serving others brought her much joy.
Lareen had a resilient spirit. Throughout her battle with cancer, her positive attitude and great faith in the Lord was admired by many. She was submissive and humble, always trusting in the Lord, noticing miracles, and giving glory to her Heavenly Father.
Lareen was preceded in death by her mother Janeen, and her father Larry. She is survived by her brother Sjon (Linda), daughter Camille, son Cliff, daughter Stephanie (Joshua), and her grandchildren, Matthew and Ellie.
A viewing will be held from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at 2895 E. Creek Road, Cottonwood Heights, UT 84121.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at 2895 E. Creek Road, Cottonwood Heights, UT 84121. Family and friends may attend a viewing from 9:00 am - 10:00 am prior to the services.
She will be buried at the Mountain View Memorial Estates Cemetery on 3115 Bengal Blvd, Cottonwood Heights, UT 84121.
