Larry Kay Richins

Mar 27, 1940 — Jul 11, 2026

On the 11th day of July 2026 Larry Kay Richins, 86 years old, of Salt Lake City, Utah peacefully returned home to his heavenly father and was reunited with his loving wife Diana Mae Jones Putnam Richins who has been waiting for him since May 2017.

Larry Kay was born in Pleasant Grove, Utah on March 27th, 1940 to Glen Richins and Lexie Bilda Colledge Richins. He grew up in a loving farm house in Lindon, Utah and graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1958. He met Jean Harper in high school and after graduating they married. Together they had four beautiful children, Kymberlee Richins, Scott (Jodi) Richins, Janalyn (Patrick) McKeehan, and Kenneth (Kathy) Richins. They were later divorced. In his school years Larry Kay excelled in wrestling and track. He has been a supporter and booster of BYU athletics and the cougar club and had season football tickets for many years. He always took family members to the games with him and it was a privilege to be invited to go along with him. He received an associate degree from Utah Technical College and took classes at Weber State University and BYU to achieve a Machinist Engineering degree. He was employed at the same company for 50 years. Over the years the company has changed names and is now known as L3 Communications. His title as he finished his career was Senior Industrial Engineer. He was so knowledgeable with the statistics and methods/routing that after he retired, L3 offered him full salary to come back one day per week to train new engineers. He turned down that offer as he enjoyed his retirement with Diana. He loved to be outdoors doing yard work, hiking and horseback riding. Whenever attending family dinners or gatherings he would always come with his hands full bringing a pie and goodies. He loved hunting and fishing in his younger years. He was an avid sports watcher and loved competition. He always happily shoveled sidewalks and driveways and helped with yard work for all the elderly neighbors. He lovingly took care of Diana as her health declined the last years of her life.

Larry Kay is preceded in death by his parents. His loving wife Diana and his brothers Brent, Rex, and Gary. He is survived by His four Children, 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren.
