Larry “Tony” Virginia

November 4, 1950 – October 12, 2025

Millcreek, Utah

Larry Virginia, age 74, passed away on October 12, 2025, in Millcreek, Utah. He was born on November 4, 1950, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Lawrence Virginia and Betty Florence.

Larry never married, but his life was full of love and family. The love of his life was Roberta Royal, with whom he shared two sons and countless memories. Though their time together was brief, she remained his heart throughout his life.

Larry proudly served his country as a soldier in the Marine Corps from January 16, 1968, to May 19, 1970, earning the National Defense Service Medal.

He was passionate about billiards and was known as an exceptional pool player, competing in and winning numerous tournaments across Utah, Nevada, and Wyoming. He taught both of his sons to play at an early age and would coach them through their matches late into their 30’s. He loved fishing and took his boys on more trips than could ever be counted. Larry cherished road trips — especially when his sons were along for the ride —he just loved being in the car.

A devoted football fan, Larry’s loyalty to the Miami Dolphins and Dan Marino was legendary. But above all, he loved his family. He made sure his sons always knew how much they meant to him, and he never ended a conversation without saying, “I love you.”

Larry is survived by his sons, Thyson Virginia and Brandon Royal (Virginia), Crystal Royal (Brandon's wife) and Emily Martin (Thyson's partner). He is also survived by his grandchildren Keely and Brooks Royal, his brother Brent Bates, his sister Ruby Rose, his niece Misty Korth, his nephew Kyle Rose and a large extended family and many friends who loved and adored him.

He was preceded in death by his father Lawrence Virginia, his mother Betty Florence, his siblings Thomas and Nancy Mattingly, his sister Alicia Bates, his grandmother Ruby Fletcher, and others who loved and adored him.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 11:00am, with a viewing prior starting at 10:00am-10:45am at Memorial Lake Hills Mortuary – 10055 S. State St, Sandy, UT 84070.
