Laura Verna Bangerter Johnson

March 15, 1942 – September 2, 2026

Laura Verna Bangerter Johnson, 84, of Murray, Utah, passed away quietly on September 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

She married Eldon “Buck” Johnson on May 1st 1982. They are sealed for time and all eternity in the LDS temple and were blessed to share 44 years together.

Laura was kind, inclusive and outgoing. She had the ability to make everyone feel welcome and was always inviting others to join in with the family. She drew people in, loved them deeply, and left an impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

More than anything, Laura was the one who held her family together. She was the heart of the family and the person who made sure everyone stayed connected. On holidays and other occasions she planned gatherings as a way to bring everyone together. She loved having her family gathered around her.

She showed her love by taking care of people, and one of her favorite ways to show love was through cooking. Her kitchen was a place where people were fed, welcomed, and loved. She was always making something for someone and always thinking about what she could do for the people around her.

Laura was also endlessly creative and loved learning and making things with her hands. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting, knitting, shopping, gardening, canning, scrapbooking, and countless other crafts.

Laura was very active. She bowled on a league, loved to play golf, even achieving a hole-in-one and faithfully served with her husband on an LDS mission for their church. When she was younger, she loved to dance, gave dance lessons, and enjoyed being part of several dance groups together with Buck.

After becoming paralyzed, Buck remodeled their home even installing an elevator for her accessibility. Throughout those years he, along with Teri Prince, Debbie Noche, Tiffany Eckholdt, Hailey Green, Kendra Osai, Spencer Noche, Staci Johnson, Julie Jackson and her longtime beloved friend and medical aid Jo Bolton, who supported and cared for her physical needs for 19 years, while Laura faced circumstances that would have given anyone reason to feel discouraged. But, she didn’t complain or feel sorry for herself. Instead, she continued to look for the positive in life. She showed the people around her what it meant to accept life as it comes and to remain grateful for the people and moments that matter most. She always moved forward with grace and love.

Friendship was another important part of Laura’s life. She had the ability to make and keep lifelong friends and those relationships mattered to her. Her friends knew they could count on her, and she cherished the friendships she built throughout her life.

Laura is survived by her beloved husband, Buck Johnson; her children, Julie Jackson, Steve Carnahan (Faye), Mike Johnson (Staci), Teresa “Teri” Prince (Jerry), Debbie Noche, Jennie Johnson (wife of her late son Doug); her 16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Julienne Carnahan, her step-son Doug Johnson, and her son, David Carnahan.

Laura’s greatest legacy is the way she lived her life. She brought people together, served others and found joy even when life became difficult. She made people feel welcome and loved simply by being herself.

Laura was the heart of her family, and her absence is deeply felt. She will be missed beyond words and will always be kept close in our hearts.
