LaVell J Jensen passed away October 20, 2010 from complications of cancer and heart disease. He was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his death.
He was born August 29, 1933, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Junius Jensen and Geneva Syme. He was sealed for time and all eternity to his sweetheart Joan Valoy Burgon, June 8, 1959 in the Salt Lake City temple.
LaVell graduated from West High School in 1951 and received a BS in electrical engineering from the University of Utah in 1960. He was stationed in Korea from 1953 to 1955 while serving in the Army. He retired from Utah Power and Light Company in 1995 having worked there since graduating from the U of U.
He lived a life of service being an active member of the Optimist Club and the West Valley Honorary Colonels. The Boy Scouts of America awarded him the Silver Beaver for a lifetime of dedicated service to young men. An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, LaVell served in many capacities including bishop and had a particular affinity for sharing the gospel.
He is survived by his beloved wife Joan, his daughters, Sena (Randy) Smith, Tonna (Britt) DeJong and Sharla (Paul) Aldous, son, Darren (Julie) Jensen, 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Buddy and Jerry. He joins his parents Junius and Geneva, and sisters LaRue and Beverly Griggs in a joyous reunion in the afterlife. He also looks forward to being reunited with his leg without that infernal sheet between his toes.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct 25, 2010 at 12 Noon at the Foothill 6th Ward, 2215 East Roosevelt Ave (1450 South) . Friends and family can visit Sunday evening at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, from 6:00 to 8:00pm and at the church Monday morning from 10:30 to 11:30am prior to the service.
