Lavern Brown Thorell

LaVern Brown Thorell, our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend to everyone passed away peacefully on February 15, 2016 at the home of her daughter in Bountiful, Utah of matters incident to age.  She was 96 years old at the time of her passing.

LaVern was born December 21, 1919 in Millcreek, Utah as a daughter of Wilford A. Brown and Bessie LaVern Watford.  LaVern was married in the Salt Lake Temple on August 31, 1938 to Willard Linus Thorell.

She loved her family and gave unlimited service to them.  They were the center of her life.  She loved being with them and loved seeing them whenever she could and especially on her birthdays.   She also loved being with her friends.  She was generous, compassionate and always maintained a positive outlook.

LaVern was faithful and involved in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life and served in many capacities.

Sewing, crocheting and quilting were among her special talents. She shared her creations with all and especially her family.  She made beautiful and sometimes fun quilts for each of her children and even for each of her grandchildren when they got married.  She was active in crocheting and quilting until almost the end of her 96 years.

She loved life, nature, flowers and vegetables.  She was a beautiful example to all who knew her.

LaVern was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Willard Linus Thorell and her infant son, Paul Thorell, and two grandsons, Shawn E. Thorell, and Jeffrey S. McMurray.  She is survived by five children: David Lynn Thorell (Lyn), Alan Ray Thorell (Cindy), Lorna Jane McMurray (Steven), Dixie Mae Pulsipher (Dennis), and Roger Wayne Thorell (Cathy), and by 26 grandchildren and 83 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 22, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Crystal Heights 1st Ward Chapel, 1970 East Stratford Ave. (2560 S.), Salt Lake City, UT 84106. Viewings will be held on Sunday, February 21, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, Salt Lake City, Utah, and at the church Monday morning from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. before the service.  Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park following the services.
