Lavon Anderson Passey

Lavon Anderson Passey, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, was born on July 26, 1934, in the small mining town of Copperfield (Bingham Canyon), Utah.

She was the daughter of Celestine Less Anderson and Flossie Winn Raper and grew up alongside her sister, Shirley Anderson Combs.

Music was woven into Lavon's childhood. Her parents performed together in a musical group known as The Red Hots. Her father was a gifted musician who played several instruments, including the violin, guitar, banjo, ukulele, and octarina. Her mother played the piano and ukulele and was also a talented singer. Together, they taught Lavon and Shirley to sing and dance, and the girls often joined their parents in performances on stage.

Following her parents' divorce, Lavon went to live with her beloved Aunt Elva and Uncle Martin Jensen in Copperton when she was five years old. She spent nearly seven wonderful years with them and often spoke fondly of that time in her life.

Lavon had a lifelong love of the outdoors. She enjoyed camping, fishing, water skiing, sports, walking, and staying active. In school, she was a cheerleader and was the leading star in the ninth-grade operetta at Bingham High School.

She was the proud mother of four sons: Michael Ray, Dan E., Guy Douglas, and Jeffery Lamar Stoker.

Lavon later married the love of her life, Lyman E. Passey, and together they shared 33 wonderful years of marriage before Lyman passed away on May 2, 2003.

Throughout her working years, Lavon worked as a grocery checker in both Utah and Las Vegas, Nevada. She later became a sales representative, traveling throughout many states alongside her husband. She also worked as a gardener and groundskeeper for seven years.

Creative and generous, Lavon loved crocheting beautiful afghans for family and friends, each one made with love.

Her faith was an important part of her life. She was a devoted member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Taylorsville, where she faithfully served in several ministries, including the choir, hospitality and greeter ministries, yard sales, and helping care for and clean the church. She also loved gathering family and friends together for backyard barbecues and parties at her clubhouse.

Lavon was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Lyman Passey; two sons, Dan E. Stoker and Jeffery Stoker; her grandson, Nick Stoker; and her sister, Shirley Combs.

She is lovingly survived by her sons Michael (Karla) Stoker and Guy Stoker; seven grandchildren: Shane, Candice, Sheldon, Chance, Eric, Allison, and Chandler; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Lavon will be remembered for her love of family, her musical heritage, her deep faith, her generous heart, and the warmth she shared with everyone she met. Her legacy of kindness, service, and love will continue to live on in all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2654 Builders Drive, Taylorsville, Utah.

Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing prior to the service from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. at the church.

Interment will follow at Memorial Redwood Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah.
