LaVon Mildred Last West passed away on July 17, 2014, in Las Vegas, NV.
She was born August 5, 1924, to Alva Saunders Last and Cecelia Sophia Krantz in Salt Lake City, UT. A graduate of West High School, she married Harold C. West in the Salt Lake Temple on November 20, 1942. Theirs was the kind of shared love that endures through the eternities.
LaVon loved being busy. She was a talented baker, candy maker, chocolatier, cook, gardener and seamstress who also excelled at embroidery, knitting and crochet. She held various teaching positions in the LDS Church throughout her lifetime. She also worked for many years at the University of Utah in the Division of Continuing Education, the Lectures and Concerts Office, in Kingsbury Hall, and was affiliated with the Utah Repertory Dance Theatre at its inception in 1966. She was last employed by Utah Retirement Systems until 2007. LaVon's typing skills were legendary. In her "spare" time, she not only typed the manuscripts for research papers hammered out by countless graduate students, but also for full-length books by prominent Utah historian Dr. Brigham Madsen and many other authors.
