Lawrence (Larry, Larky, Sonny) Earl Evans

June 18, 1930 — March 9, 2025

Cottonwood Heights, Utah- Lawrence (Larry, Larky, Sonny) Earl Evans, age 94 passed away peacefully on March 9, 2025.

Larry was born on June 18, 1930, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Ida and Lawrence (Larry) Evans. Larry grew up in a close and loving family with his sisters LaRue (Chic) Lyons, Jean (Gordy) Wilson and brother Lee (Joyce) Evans.

Larry graduated from South High School in 1948. After high school he served a mission in the Southern states for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was drafted during the Korean war serving as a corporal in the Military Police. He worked briefly in a grocery store and his uncle’s restaurant while growing up and spent his career in the Elevator Industry, retiring, in December 1992.

Larry married the love of his life, Marba Murray in the Salt Lake temple on March 19, 1953. They had four children Kevin (Toni), Dirk (LaVon), Tim (Barbie), and Marianne (Mike). He loved being a father and grandfather. As a man of faith, he was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many ward positions.

Larry and Marba lived in California when they were first married while he was in the Military and had many adventures. They moved back to Utah and purchased their home in Cottonwood Heights where they remained. Larry’s job took him out of town and the family would travel with him when they could. He would often speak about the time they lived in Hawaii. He was very social and loved traveling with his family and friends. His favorite place was Alaska, where they spent many summers making new friends. He was always willing to help anyone that needed it. There was no road to long, no hour to late and no task to important.

Larry is survived by his four children and spouses. Eleven grandchildren, six in-law grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews that adored him.

Larry is preceded in death by his loving wife, parents, In-laws Ray and Mildred Jackson, sisters LaRue Lyon and Jean Wilson, brother Lee, sisters-in -law Joan Laws, Faye Young, Maureen Murray, and Elaine Horsley, brothers-in-law Jim Laws, Troy Young, Charles Lyon, Gordy Wilson, Jay Jackson, Billy Jackson and Grant Murray.

The family would like to thank the Symbii Hospice team for the care and kindness they showed to Larry and the family during his last few weeks.
