Larry came into this world on October 13, 1939, the son of Herbert Panek and Edna Marchant Young. He went out, fighting hard, at the classic age of 82 years. Larry’s maternal grandparents, who he lived with for a few years in Peo, impacted him greatly while living on a ranch. And at the age of 16 he was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Having been born with a sense of humor and a love of cars, he quickly found friends, and at the tender age of 17, joined the US Air Force ADC NORAD. Larry loved the military environment and spent 9 years traveling to a number of locations, training and working as a technical sergeant. Later he found a position as a creative account executive at Harris & Love Advertising which allowed him to conceive, write and produce major advertising campaigns. He greatly admired Dick Harris and Bob Love.
Almost a decade later, he was recruited by KUTV Channel 2 to work in broadcast sales where he became a top salesman and later was sought out by KTVX Channel 4, having developed a reputation as one of the industry’s most effective sales reps.
After 7 years, Larry decided it was time to open his own media research group. Soon he took on a partner, creating a full-service agency, providing all necessary advertising services to a multitude of clients for the next 20 years.
Along the way he continued his interest in various military hobbies, building 40+ scale model airplanes (some of which are on display outside the chapel). He found joy in antique cars and trucks, German Shepherds, reading anything about history and writing.
He is survived by his wife, Vickie; a son, Larry Brad Panek (Tracey); step-son Tyler Cushing (Lori), step-daughter Amber Gracanin (Ed) and 6 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Panek and Edna Marchant Young.
The family wishes to thank CNS Hospice and BrightStar Care for their great help through this time. Those wishing to honor Larry’s memory may make a donation to Wounded Warriors at: https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate.
