It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, Leo D. Trujillo, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, in his Salt Lake City home.
Leo was born on August 26, 1941, in Peñasco, New Mexico, to Manuel Gervacio Trujillo and Rosarito “Rose” (Fresquez) Trujillo. He was the second oldest of nine children. Much of his youth was spent on the family farm in New Mexico before moving to Utah in 1955.
Leo began working at a young age and spent much of his life in construction and skilled trades. He took great pride in his work, including his many years at Ideal Cement Company, where he retired as Plant Foreman after more than 38 years of dedication.
In Green River, Wyoming, Leo met the love of his life, Nora Bernal. The two married on December 9, 1961, and together built a beautiful life and family in the Salt Lake City area.
Leo was a proud New Mexican, and that pride showed in the stories he told, the traditions he carried, and the way he lived. He enjoyed menudo, biscochitos, roasting piñon nuts, homemade elk jerky and frying up some chicharrónes. He had a passion for music, loved playing guitar, and enjoyed singing for family and friends. Leo and Nora especially loved singing together and sharing their faith through the Spanish Choir at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
A kind and generous man, Leo never hesitated to help someone in need. For many years, he volunteered at the downtown food bank and men’s shelter. He was a man of faith, humility, and gratitude who faced life’s hardships with quiet strength and perseverance.
Leo was a true “man’s man” who could fix almost anything. He enjoyed working on cars, being outdoors, camping, fishing, hunting, and making memories with the people he loved most. Above everything else, Leo loved his family. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were his greatest joy.
Leo is survived by his children Susan Duran (John), David Trujillo, Philip Trujillo (Christine), son-in-law Oscar Navarro. His grandchildren Joseph (Jessica), Yvonne, Steven, Cassandra, Aubrey, Andrew, Austin, Alex, and Alijah. His great-grandchildren Dominic, Dalainee, Alyssa, Azalea, Santana, Jack, Lorenzo, Charlotte, Valentina, David, Belen, Dario, and Camila.
His siblings Don Trujillo, Ben Trujillo (Mary), Lydia Vidaurre (Johnny), Manuel Trujillo Jr (Shirley), and Henry Trujillo.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Nora Trujillo, his daughter Lori Navarro, son Paul Trujillo, parents Manuel and Rose Trujillo; his brothers David, Arnold, and Roy Trujillo.
Leo will forever be remembered for his warm heart, strong work ethic, deep faith, and the love he gave so freely. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
