Lois Margaret Duncan

Lois Margaret Duncan, age 94, passed away peacefully in her daughter's home on July 21, 2026.

Lois was born December 27, 1931 in Archer, Nebraska, the 4th child of Evans Clarence and Lois Margaret (Reynolds) Vandegrift. She grew up in harsh conditions during the Great Depression. Her family moved to Wyoming, and eventually to Salt Lake City when she was 12 years old.

Lois attended Bryant Junior School, and graduated from West High School in 1949. She enjoyed art in her years at West High School.

She met Eugene LaMar Duncan on a blind date in 1950, and they married in 1951. They lived in Rio Vista, California and Mountain Home, Idaho while Gene was stationed in the U.S. Air Force. After that they returned home to Salt Lake where they raised four children.

Lois was a very talented photo colorist and retouch artist. She started out working for Don Blair before moving to the Don Busath Photography Studios where she worked for many years. She won numerous awards for her work.

Lois was also a sorority member where she became the record keeper of activities & history which she preserved in the yearly scrapbooks for which she received many honors.

She enjoyed her sewing and stitchery projects, as well as family scrapbooking, and many of these were given to her children, grandchildren, and relatives. She also loved to cook and bake, especially her fine deserts which everyone looked forward to.

Lois always greeted everyone with a warm smile, and she will be missed by all.

She was survived by her children: Craig Duncan, Steven Duncan, Gayle Stout, and Linda Wagner; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and by her four sisters: Shirley Westwood, Phyllis Farrell, Marilyn Purser, and Julia Vandegrift. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Eugene Duncan, and her brother Robert Vandegrift.
