Lois Hawkins Grose

Lois Hawkins Grose passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She leaves behind a legacy of devotion, kindness, faith, and unwavering love for those fortunate enough to know her.

Lois was born on June 18, 1938, in Ogden, Utah, to Walter Hawkins and Nellie DeGroot Hawkins. She spent her childhood in Ogden where she was raised by her loving parents and cherished countless hours with her grandparents, whom she adored. She graduated from Ogden High School, proudly carrying the title of an Ogden Tiger throughout her life.

As a junior in high school, Lois married the love of her life, Darrell Grose. Together they began a beautiful journey that would span decades, built on love, faith, friendship, and family. Their son Scott was born in 1957 while they lived in Ogden. Later, Lois and Darrell were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple May 24, 1968, a sacred blessing that remained at the center of their lives.

The couple eventually moved to Washington Terrace, where their son Brian was born in 1960. Though Lois loved that home, the family later moved to Sunset where she built treasured friendships with wonderful neighbors and welcomed their daughter, LoriAnn into the family in 1965. Eventually, Darrell convinced a reluctant Lois to move to Hooper where they built a home and raised their family for 31 happy years. After Darrell suffered a stroke in 1999, maintaining the Hooper property became difficult, so they built a new home in Clinton. There, Lois once again found joy and contentment, spending the next 27 years creating memories with family and friends. During the final months of her life, Lois was lovingly cared for in the home of her daughter LoriAnn and son-in-law Jim, where she was surrounded by love and comfort.

Lois had a tender heart and a gift for serving others. She worked in special education at Hooper Elementary, where she developed a deep love for the children she served. She later worked as a clerk at the Defense Depot Ogden until her retirement. One of her greatest joys was caring for her grandchildren when they were young, creating special bonds and treasured memories that would last a lifetime.

Nothing brought Lois more happiness than supporting her children. Whether she was cheering from the sidelines at Scott and Brian's countless softball games or traveling to rodeos, 4-H events, and competitions with LoriAnn, she was always their biggest fan. She especially loved telling others that her daughter had been a rodeo queen, a source of immense pride and joy.

Lois and Darrell shared a special love for their beloved campground in the canyon above Huntsville, which they affectionately called their "Garden of Eatin". For more than 42 years, it was their little piece of heaven on earth. Together with family and friends, they spent countless hours clearing brush and trees, building memories, sharing laughter, and creating traditions that will live on for generations.

The couple also enjoyed a rich social life filled with lifelong friendships. They were active members of the JJ Square Dance Club and loved dancing and traveling with dear friends. Annual trips to Lava Hot Springs became treasured family traditions.

Lois and Darrell were also part of a motorcycle group made up of several couples who shared unforgettable adventures and plenty of good-natured pranks and laughter. These friendships brought immeasurable joy to their lives. Lois also treasured her lunch group gatherings and looked forward to every opportunity to reconnect with friends she loved dearly.

As a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Lois served diligently in many callings throughout her life. She was known as a compassionate ministering sister who quietly cared for others. Her testimony never wavered, and her faith remained strong until the very end. She found great comfort in the gospel and took joy in living a life devoted to her Savior.

Lois is survived by her beloved fur babies, Roxy and Nellie; her loving children, Scott (Jill) Grose, Brian (Danelle) Grose, and LoriAnn (Jim) Hale; her brother Richard "Dick" Hawkins; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Her posterity was her greatest treasure and her proudest accomplishment.

She was preceded in death by her eternal companion and beloved husband, Darrell Grose; granddaughter April Marie Grose; her parents, Walter and Nellie Hawkins; her brother Darold Hawkins; and her cherished fur babies Chloe and Sammy.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers and friends who brought comfort and companionship to Lois during her final days, including the staff at Fairfield Rehabilitation, Symbii Hospice, Memorial Mortuaries (Eric Moyes) and the many family members and friends who took time to visit. Your kindness helped her feel deeply loved and supported.
