Lois Lorene Johnson Passey Marcantonio, 98, a beloved matriarch known for her warmth and kindness, passed away peacefully at home on October 19, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on March 31, 1928, in Kemmerer, Wyoming, Lois was the cherished daughter of Lawrence Burton and Lois Lorene (Moffat) Johnson.
Lois was a woman of immense strength, intelligence, and quick wit. She held many roles throughout her life; from working on the family ranch in Randolph Utah, to pursuing her passion as a beautician and opening her own salon. Her most notable professional accomplishment was working as an optician alongside her husband, Tuck, at Argus Optical. Her career path was diverse, but it was her role as a mother and grandmother that brought her the greatest joy.
Lois' family was her world. She married Lyman Passey, with whom she had five beautiful children. Though their paths later diverged, Lois eventually found her one and only, Tuck Marcantonio, with whom she shared a special kind of love for 36 years. It is important to share that she was a very proud Italian ‘by marriage’. She is survived by her devoted children, Mark (Char) Passey, Jill (Brad) Bailey, and Ann (Kim) Harding. Her legacy continues through her 14 grandchildren—Allison, Hilary, Adria, Heather, Chris, Jared, Jennifer, Cody, Trevor, Mick, Dylan, Wesley—her 27 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren (with one on the way) who were all touched by her love and wisdom.
A longtime member of the Optimist Club, Lois embodied the spirit of optimism and positivity. She served many positions including President, Vice President, and Secretary. She was also a dedicated member of the DAV and Al Anon where she held many leadership roles, hosted events, and formed many lifelong friendships. She would always say that staying busy kept her young. She was a gifted reader, writer, seamstress, and quilter, known for her beautiful handmade creations. Her homemade salsa and jams were family favorites, and her love for parties was evident in the thoughtful cards she created, her famous dance moves, and the joy she brought to each occasion. An avid Utah Jazz fan, Lois' enthusiasm for the game was infectious. As she would say “Karl Malone is my main man.”
Lois was predeceased by her parents, Lawrence and Lois, her brothers Dallas, Merrill, Delmar; sisters Gail and Carol, her husband Tuck, her sons Kim and Neil, a grandson, Tyler, and a granddaughter, Hailey, and a great-grandson, Brayden. Despite these losses, her spirit remained unbroken, and her kindness touched countless lives. She had a unique ability to make everyone feel accepted, welcomed, and valued—a testament to her generous heart.
A service to celebrate Lois' remarkable life will be held on Monday, November 2, 2026 at Memorial Murray Mortuary, 5850 South 900 East. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Lois’ daughter, Jill, for bringing her home and caring for her the last eight months, and also to Kylee, Lois' hospice caregiver, whose compassion and care over the last eight months were invaluable.
Lorene Marcantonio will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who were fortunate to know her. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
