LORENE SUSAN QUINN PRATT 1919 TO 2011

Lorene Susan Quinn Pratt (a true grand old lady) died peacefully, on April 2, 2011 surrounded by family at the home of her daughter Joy in Salt Lake City. She had just celebrated her 92nd birthday with her family. She was born March 28, 1919 in a log cabin in Firth Idaho shortly before her twin sister Larue.

She grew up on the family farm in Firth where she learned the value of hard work, digging potatoes and weeding the fields. She excelled in school, skipping a grade, and in sports, playing running center on the girls basketball team.

She possessed a very independent and adventurous spirit. Upon graduating from high school, Lorene attended beauty school and opened her own beauty parlor in Firth at the age of 19. In 1939 she traveled by train to New York City to see the World's Fair and see the sights. She always loved to travel to see her siblings and was able to visit them in places from New York to Alaska.

She married Ray Linden Cheney and had one daughter Raelene. They were later divorced. She married Paul Harmon Pratt on June 12, 1950 in the Idaho Falls temple. Together they started a family in Salt Lake City and in 1957 moved to Cedar City Utah where her last daughter was born. Paul died in 1962 leaving Lorene with 5 young children to raise. She was able to raise her family alone without the help of welfare or food stamps. She learned to be tough and resourceful and despite the hardships she always kept her zest for life and a sense of humor. She passed along her quick wit to many of her children and grand children. She was always meticulous in her appearance, home, and yard. She was a woman full of integrity, loyalty, selflessness, and dignity. Mom was a hard worker and taught her children the same. She loved to be active and enjoyed her early morning 3 mile walks well into her 80's. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many callings. She particularly enjoyed working in the church extraction program where she served for over 20 years and made many lasting friendships. She had a beautiful singing voice and loved to sing in the choir and with quartets. Her family appreciates their sister Joy for the constant care of Lorene for the past 5 A
