Lorenzo A. Merchant, a man of exceptional character and unwavering loyalty, passed away on January 6, 2024, in South Jordan, Utah. His memory will forever be cherished by his loving family and the countless individuals whose lives he touched over the course of his remarkable journey.

Born on September 25, 1927, in Houston, Texas, Lorenzo embodied the spirit of a proud Texan throughout his life. He was for his warm heart, infectious laughter, and unwavering dedication to those he held dear. Lorenzo's love for automobiles was legendary, serving as an emblem of his adventurous spirit and zest for life. His passion manifested in countless memorable road trips shared with family and friends.

An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Lorenzo found solace in his faith and lived out its teachings with grace and compassion. A true example to those who knew him, he devoted himself to acts of service and displayed unwavering kindness toward others.

Lorenzo courageously served his country, distinguishing himself in both the Air Force and Navy. His military service included World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam. Throughout his honorable career, he earned numerous accolades that reflected his dedication to duty and exemplary character. Among these honors were the World War II Victory Medal, UN Service Medal I, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal with two clusters, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon with four oak clusters, and Air Force Small Arms Expert Ribbon.

A man of deep familial devotion, Lorenzo was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and his loving wife, to whom he shared a loving union for 62 years with.  His unwavering love will eternally shine within their hearts.

To carry forward Lorenzo's legacy are his cherished children: Lance D. Merchant and his daughter-in-law, Alaine Merchant; Pamela A. Hull and his son-in-law, Wayne Hull; Clayton Merchant and his daughter-in-law, Sharon Merchant; and Linda Bennett and his son-in-law, Russ Bennett. Also mourning his loss is Carolyn J. Nell, his dear sister. Throughout their lives, Lorenzo's kindness and love impacted the lives of his ten grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held in honor of Lorenzo A. Merchant's life on January 12, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the Memorial Lake Hills Mortuary and Cemetery located at 10055 S State St in Sandy, Utah. This will be followed by a funeral service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the same location. Finally, Lorenzo will be interred during a poignant ceremony from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.

Lorenzo A. Merchant was a remarkable individual who exemplified compassion, dedication, and love throughout his life. His memory will forever inspire those fortunate enough to have known him. In our hearts, he will be remembered for his vibrant spirit, profound wisdom, and unwavering devotion to family and friends.

May he rest in eternal peace as he joins the heavenly choir above us all.
