Lorraine Beardall Toomey

Heaven just got a little brighter joyously welcoming Lorraine Beardall Toomey home to serve a new mission. Lorraine passed away July 22, 2026, after a long and beautiful life. Lorraine was born July 14, 1932, in Park City Utah to her mother Sarah Ina Barney Alexander and father Clifton Lavon Beardall. She had 2 siblings, George and Frank. She had a wonderful childhood growing up in Provo, Utah and even starred in the school production of Lil’ Abner. Lorraine says the greatest decision she ever made was to marry Donald Eugene Toomey after he returned from his mission to South Africa. They had 4 children, David, Phillip, Melodie, and Sharyl who will forever love, adore, and honor them.

Lorraine was a warm, loving woman of hugs. Heavenly Father was her guiding light. She was a woman of integrity, service, and unconditional love for others. She was a second mile woman in her church callings, her role as a mother and grandmother, as well as the truest of friends.

Don and Lorraine loved to be with family and had the best of friends. They were adventurers and traveled the world from India and Africa, to Spain and Israel. But the best of times were camping in a tent and singing songs around a campfire or having a barbecue in the backyard with all those they loved.

Lorraine always held a leadership or teaching position in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She was an amazing Relief Society President, Primary President, and she adored her Young Women and took them on many adventures hiking in Big Sur, and bike riding in Yosemite all the while building testimonies along the way.

Lorraine loved people. And everyone loved Lorraine. She took in the homeless, the sick, exchange students, those battling cancer, and loved those who just needed a friend. You couldn’t walk away from a conversation with Lorraine without feeling uplifted and loved unconditionally.

Don and Lorraine shared the joy of serving a mission together for the Church in Hawaii where they served as missionaries and teaching and building leadership in the small community of Naalehu on the Big Island. The second half of their mission they served as tour guides and missionaries at the Hawaii Temple Visitors Center in Laie on the island of Oahu. They said it was the highlight of their lives! After returning home they served for years as tour guides at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building on Temple Square and organizing airport temple square tours in Salt Lake City, Utah which to this day their influence continues to change lives forever. After moving to St. George, Utah to retire, they again lovingly served as temple workers in the St. George, Temple.

Lorraine loved being out in this beautiful world. She loved going on walks and hikes and reading a good book by the river followed by a big bon fire. She was the best example of a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother and she says her family is her greatest pride and joy and that nothing in this world is more important than family. She will be forever loved. And though we will all miss her, her life and her example has helped make us all a little better. Her life truly was a life well lived.

At her request a “Celebration of Life” will be held in her honor for her posterity on Saturday, September 26th. She will be laid to rest next to her husband, Don at Memorial Mountain View Cemetery, 3115 Bengal Blvd Cottonwood Heights, UT 84121
