Lorraine Hortin Young

April 16, 1919 — September 20, 2012

Ruth Lorraine Hortin Young passed away peacefully, Sep. 20, 2012 at home surrounded by her family. She was born April 16, 1919 in Wanship, Utah to Hazel Jane Hixson and Arthur Charles Hortin. She married Vernon Campbell Young on August 29, 1947 in Wanship, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on June 25, 1948.

Mom has an outgoing and positive attitude and loved a good joke or story. She was a doer. When she saw something that needed to be done and she could do it, she got in and did whatever was required. Through her life she was a great example of service. She had many adventures. During the war she worked at Remington Arms. Later in life she was a professional seamstress. Most of all she was a loving and devoted mother and wife. She was an active member of the church and served in many callings. She taught us about faith, hope, love and service her entire life but especially through her example of caring for a daughter through a 20 year battle with aggressive MS. We will miss the love that she showed to all of us. We are most grateful to wonderful neighbors, friends and ward members, especially loving Relief Society sisters that so freely gave of their time to help watch over and care for Mom, which allowed us to keep her at home. We are also grateful for the excellent hospice care provided by Symbii.

Lorraine is survived by her children, Raye Ann, Lynn (Sally); grandsons, Chad, Daniel (Charlene), Justin; great-granddaughter, Maggie Raye; brothers, Chuck, John, Frank; sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Jackie Lee; and sister, Marr.
