Luana (Carter) Heaton

Roxcy Luana Carter Heaton was called home on November 23, 2021, almost exactly 10 years after the passing of her sweetheart, Grant, in 2011. Luana was born January 30, 1929 and grew up in Park Valley, Utah which she dearly loved. Her love of the country, rocks and the simple things prepared her well as she went through life's experiences. She was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and had the unique experience of serving two full time missions as a young adult. She loved serving in the Indian Mission in Arizona and New Mexico and because of this service, was prepared for her next, defining chapter of missionary work overseas.

She attended the University of Utah and chose to marry Herald Grant Heaton in December of 1952 after meeting in a ballroom dance class. Shortly after they were married, Grant was enlisted and sent to Korea during the war. She took the opportunity at that time to serve her second full-time mission in California while Grant was overseas. In 1955 Grant and Luana were called together to open the Southern Far East Mission in Hong Kong for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints while raising their children at 25 years young. Over the years, Luana served faithfully in her church callings and continued her missionary work in family history until Grant's health began to fail. She diligently cared for him by his side for years until his passing in 2011. Luana's quiet strength, humor, faith and ability to endure gracefully through trials has been a lasting legacy and example for her children, grandchildren and the missionaries she served in Hong Kong.

Luana is survived by her sister Marvell Hirschi, sister-in-law Flora May (Richard) Cheney, and her children, H.Grant Jr. (Linda) Heaton, Lisa Lee (Jeff) Jones, Karen Avery Heaton, Kwan (Lavon) Heaton, Patricia Ann (Clark) Chamberlain, and 46 grandchildren and spouses and 50 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her dear husband H. Grant Heaton Sr, her son Eric Eugene Heaton and her parents Laurence and Emma Carter, in-laws, Herald Hoyt Heaton (Ellen Johnson, Dollie Lee Garrison) and her siblings, Lael (Rowena) Carter, Kay (Clarene) Carter, Betty Jo (Hamer) Reiser, Delbert Hirschi, Emma Louise Chambers (Joe) Davis, in-laws Eudora (Art) Thompson, Mary Deen (Max) Jeppson, and Karma (Chad) Clark. She was blessed to have family nearby throughout her life and especially in the last 10 years living with Grant and Linda.

Luana loved to read, gather flowers and rocks, watch birds and was gifted in crochet and sewing skills. She served in many church callings and taught school in her youth in Park Valley.

She loved her children and grandchildren dearly and loved to tease them and tell them stories of her youth. She worried and prayed fervently for each of them. She will be missed, but we rejoice in the knowledge that she is reunited with her eternal companion, son Eric and many other loved ones in joyful celebration, and that this is not goodbye, but see you later.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 12:30pm with a viewing prior from 11:00am-12:00pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints - Holladay 4th Ward, 4917 South Viewmont St. (2085 East), Holladay, Utah  84117.  Interment to follow at the Holladay Memorial Cemetery.
