Our beloved family matriarch, Lucile M. Salisbury, 100, passed away peacefully on Dec. 30. Born to Amelia and George McDermaid in Somerset, CO, Jan. 8, 1908, Lucile lived a life full of family, adventure and music. Her early years were spent in Hiawatha, UT, where she loved rock climbing in Price Canyon. She attended boarding school at Westminster College for two years, wrote the school song and was on the tennis team. Later she graduated with a BA in Spanish and Music from the University of Utah. Her love of the outdoors took her to Yellowstone, where she worked three summers. Each summer brought new photos of boys, fancy cars and bears! She married the love of her life, Marius E. Salisbury, on Feb. 21, 1935, after a fun courtship which included hikes, picnics and skiing in the Wasatch Mountains. They were sealed in the Los Angeles LDS Temple two decades later. They lived in Southern California until retiring to Utah in the 60's. Although Lucile was on a cruise ship in the Atlantic where she survived the famous "Perfect Storm", family was her biggest adventure and greatest love. She devoted her life to her two children, many grandchildren and great-grands. She lovingly is remembered for her Scotch Shortbread, handmade toys, bedtime stories and sing-alongs at the organ. She was active well into her mid-80's, where she even hiked the rigorous trail to Upper Emerald Pools in Zions National Park without missing a step! An active member the LDS Church, she served in her Holladay ward as organist, librarian and in other callings. We all remember her faithful prayers on behalf of her family. She loved her ward family and neighbors, and in turn was loved by all. She is survived by her two children, David Salisbury (Kay), Carol VanWagoner; eight grandchildren, Lauri English (Tom), Jill VanDongen (Pat), Tanya Paul (Todd), Scott Salisbury, Steven Salisbury (Nicole), Erin Bennett (James), Gavin VanWagoner (Marianne) and Morgan Loosli (Phill). She also has 18 great-grandchildren and one on the way! Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 3, 2009 at 12 noon at the Olympus 8th Ward, 2675 East 4430 South. Friends may visit with the family Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, and Saturday morning at the church from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment: Larkin Sunset Gardens. Online condolences may be sent to the family at: www.holbrookmortuary.com
