Lucile Terry Wright

September 11, 1929 — March 5, 2024

Lucile Terry Wright, 94, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at Spirit Lake, Idaho. She was born September 11, 1929 in Alpine, Utah to Marion Lyman Terry and Sophia Isadore Langston, the ninth of ten children — eight boys and two girls. Her siblings, who all preceded her in death, were: Leroy, Dilworth, Lyman, William, Orpha, Reed, Grant, Floyd and Marion.

Lucile attended Alpine Grade School through sixth grade. It was a two story building with four big rooms. Two grades met in each of three rooms, with the fourth room for other activities. The school was heated by a coal heater. She graduated from American Fork High School in 1947.

After graduation, she married Donald Eames Wright, He passed away in a car accident at a railroad crossing in November, 1948, leaving her with an eight-month old son, Donald.

In February, 1953, she married her first husband's nephew, William (Bill) Wright, at Alpine, Utah. They were married for 53 years. He gave her the nickname of "Cherokee", after seeing a western movie with a red-headed Indian lady by that name, since Lucile had deep red hair.

Her first real job, which lasted about eighteen years, was at Walgreens in downtown Salt Lake City as a waitress. She also worked at Penney's as a waitress for a while. After that, she went to Trade Tech, where she took sewing classes. After graduation, she worked at Guild, a furniture manufacturing store. She worked there for about 12 years. She also made pillow covers for others from scraps she collected. She then worked at John's for about four years making covers for banana chairs, and finally at Barbara's where she pieced baby quilts together for another four years.

After retirement she kept her passion for sewing alive and made saddle cinches and did other sewing projects at home. In her later years, she enjoyed sewing with plastic canvas and created such treasures as Christmas villages, napkin holders and Thanksgiving turkeys, which she gave away to her relatives and friends.

Bill and Lucile belonged to an archery club for many years and loved to compete in many events including archery golf. Lucile made their arrows, using chicken or plastic feathers.

They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on June 20, 1985. Lucile's living brothers at the time, William and Leroy and their wives, went with them to share in the occasion.

After Bill died in June of 2006, Lucile continued to live in her house in Kearns, Utah, and went to visit her son and daughter-in-law in Washington occasionally on holidays or special occasions. Finally, she accepted their invitation in 2012 to come live with them. After six years in Mukilteo, her son retired and they all moved to eastern Washington and settled in Cusick by the Pend Oreille River.

In 2021, at age 91 years, Lucile went to an assisted living facility in Coeur d'Alene Idaho, where she resided until December, 2023. Then, on Christmas night she was taken to the hospital, after collapsing and being unable to put weight on her legs. They determined she had COVID and a serious infection. In January she was transferred to a nursing home in Coeur d'Alene, and then into Hospice, at Spirit Lake Idaho, two weeks before her death.

She is survived by her son, Don, and daughter-in-law, Cheri; two grandchildren: Sean (Melissa) and Jared; three great grandchildren: Lilly, Richard Jon, (RJ) and Katie; many nieces, nephews and their families and one sister-in-law, Zelda Terry.
