Dec 17th 2025…The weather seems appropriate today. It is a rainy day, in more ways than one.
Our beloved LuThera ten Wolde Booms has been reunited with her husband, parents, brothers, sisters, and many others - but most importantly, her son, whom she has missed like crazy since his passing in 2019.
Thera was born in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, February 14th, 1936, to Father Remmelt ten Wolde and Mother Adriana (Otto) ten Wolde. Thera, her parents, 3 sisters, and 4 brothers (possibly more than I can recall) immigrated to the United States in January of 1954, ultimately settling in Salt Lake City, Utah. A year later, she would meet her husband, Tommy Booms Sr.
She spent her career dancing and entertaining her favorite customers at the Old Dutch Store and Delicatessen, where she worked in the deli as a meat savant - slicing meats, cheeses, and greeting every customer with the same love and enthusiasm as the last. So many people thought the world of her. She had an impact on everyone that she had ever met. Her family grew far beyond that of just blood.
In 1960, she gave birth to her first and only child, Tommy Booms Jr. He was her whole world. She loved watching him play soccer while he was growing up, all the way through his time in high school.
They loved enjoying the Salt Lake Golden Eagles together - much of the family had season tickets, and they loved pranking each other at the games. She loved supporting her teams throughout the years, and was an avid fan of hockey (Avalanche) and soccer (Real Salt Lake.)
She had a strong connection with her homeland, and cheered for their national teams during every Olympic Games and The World Cup. HUP HOLLAND!!! Everything she would wear was either orange or red, white, and blue. She had a great passion for the country in which she lived as well.
Her sense of style was one of her many wonderful qualities, always dressing for the occasion. Her hair was always flawless, and she would threaten violence upon anyone who would even joke about messing with it. She had a great sense of humor and was quite easily startled. Her biggest fear...mice. I fondly recall a story of a time when she saw one in a cupboard, picked up the cat, threw it in said cupboard, and proceeded to hold the doors shut on both sides, hoping the cat would do what it was hired for.
She was a loving woman, who cared with all of her heart and will be greatly missed by anyone she had ever made contact with.
She is preceded in death by her parents, all of her brothers and sisters, husband, and son. In Paradise United.
Survived by Daughter-in-law Carrie Booms, Grandson Riley Booms (Amanda Booms), and Granddaughter Erica Booms Bullen. And quite a few nieces and Nephews.
