Lyle died suddenly, at age 89, at his home in Millcreek, Utah. He was born May 25, 1936 to Jessie and LaRue Pickup. He married his high school sweetheart, Ann Peterson, in August of 1957. From his father, he inherited the unwavering cowboy ethics of frontier ranching; from his mother, he learned generosity towards all. He served in the United States Army as a cryptographer at the Army Air Defense Headquarters in Colorado Springs.
Lyle began each morning with a cup of coffee, the rustle of the newspaper, and the comics — his favorite, Beetle Bailey, always made him chuckle. In his early years he enjoyed fishing and hunting. In his later years he enjoyed working for the Utah Jazz as the team section usher.
He is survived by the loving members of his family; his daughter: Machele (Gordon) Page, granddaughters Jacquelyn (Stephen) Strehl, and Lauren Page; daughter Lori (Paul) Sandberg, granddaughters River (Adam) Moss, Trista (Greg) Taylor and great-granddaughters Evelyn and Charlie; his sister, Velma Pickup Lane (Bob Bollinger); sister-in-law Karen (Dale) Petersen, and many treasured nieces and nephews. Lyle is memorialized at Mountain View Memorial, next to Ann, the love of his life.
Graveside Service will be held on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Memorial Mountain View Mortuary and Cemetery (3115 Bengal Boulevard, Cottonwood Heights, Utah).
