Lynda Ann Mielke Clements, beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, age 80, passed away on May 7th 2025, in her home, surrounded by loved ones in Sandy, Utah. Lynda was born on June 10th, 1944, in Hanford, Washington, to Ellsworth W. Mielke and Helen O. (Hansen) Christensen.
She was married to her best friend Joe on March 15, 1963, and later sealed as a family in the Salt Lake City Temple. After almost 60 years of marriage, Joe passed away. Lynda deeply missed her eternal companion, and we are so grateful they have now been reunited.
Lynda was first and foremost a mother and homemaker to her four children. Later, she worked at Eastmont Middle School as an aid, until Joe and her son Doug opened MRS Hobby Shop in 1984. She worked there until 2020, making many life long friends.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Lynda magnified all of her callings, but being the Special Needs Primary President held a special place in her heart. She always kept tabs on “her kids”, and made a point to visit with them whenever she saw them.
Lynda was an avid crafter; she shared her love and passion for the arts with her family, spending many hours crafting baby blankets, crocheted hot pads and coasters, and prizes for her BONKO sisters, which she cherished deeply. Lynda’s favorite hobby was spending time with her children, and many grand, and great-grandchildren. She shared her love of dessert with them; always making sure she had ice cream in the freezer, candy in the dish on the table, and a variety of snacks in the snack drawer.
She emulated Christ-like love in everything she did; serving many years as a missionary at the church farm, then later at the Murray cannery to taking meals to her neighbors during COVID and beyond. She was very dedicated and always saw that her visiting teaching sisters had a message and treat each month. There was endless joy and compassion for others but if someone put a drink on her wooden table without a coaster underneath it, there was immediate contact whether you expected it or not (lol).
She is proceeded in death by her best friend and eternal companion, Merland Joseph “Joe” Clements, her parents Ellsworth W. Mielke and Helen O. Hanson, her step-father Thomas L. Baker, brother Paul L. Mielke, sister Marsha E. (Baker) Dorsey, Granddaughter Morgan C. Clements, and honorary daughter Christine Turner.
She is survived by her children Lynda (Timothy) Cherniske, Doug (April) Clements, Dennis (Cherish) Clements, and Kurt Clements, brothers Dwight (Catherine) Mielke and Dennis (Carole) King, sisters Susan (Sam) Goodwin and Karma (Pat) Yourdan, brother-in-law Terry Dorsey, grandchildren Patrick (Sierra) Clements, Taylor Clements, Tanner (Briana) Clements, Alexis (Ciaran) Giroux, Madison (Jayden) Morrill, Gabe Cherniske, Michaela (Alex) Coad, Dylan (Anika) Clements, Adam Cherniske, Michael Cherniske, Onna (Dickon) Varnum, Jacob Cherniske, Sam Cherniske, Aaron (Amanda) Cherniske, Ben (Lacie) Cherniske, fourteen great-grandchildren, and numerous honorary children and grandchildren.
We would like to extend our thanks to Applegate Hospice and their incredible team.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you go visit your family and cherish the time spent with them, and do an act of kindness in Lynda’s memory.
Funeral services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 9824 S. Flint Dr. Sandy, UT 84094 on May 17, 2025, with the viewing beginning at 10am. The services will begin at 11am. She will be interred at Memorial Lake Hills Mortuary and Cemetery at 10055 South State St. Sandy, UT 84070.
