Lynn Reid Lindstrom

March 24, 1925 — November 19, 2012

Lynn Reid Lindstrom was born on Tuesday, March 24, 1925 at Storrs (more commonly known as Spring Canyon) Utah, to Godfrey Gus Lindstrom, age 28, and Francis Thelma Cowley, age 20.

Reid died at his daughter's home in Anaheim, California on November 19, 2012; preceded in death by his wife Jane and his youngest son Chad.

Reid was one of three children: David (Pudge) and Brent.

Music was a natural gift to Reid and he loved it all his life.

After graduating from Spring Canyon Elementary School (8th grade) he went to Price Jr High and Price High School in Price, Utah.

He excelled in sports, academics, drama and chorus.

He writes, "I enjoyed being in singing groups and musicals and plays almost continually. The biggest problem was transportation. We did not have money for gas and not even a car that would run effectively. Much of the time we spent hitchhiking or walking to school activities.

I graduated in 1943 with a scholarship to Carbon Jr. College in Price, Utah."

It was at school that Reid met Martha Jane Cooper. They dated and fell in love. He baptized her a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and on August 6th, 1947, they were married in Reid's home by the Stake President. One year later they were sealed in the Logan Temple.

World War II was in full swing and Reid was given a "principal" appointment to West Point. He passed his written exam at Ft. Douglas in Salt Lake City, but failed his physical due to an eardrum perforation. On September 8, 1943, he was formally inducted into the army, as a private. And thus began his career in the military: 2nd Lieutenant 1945; 1st Lieutenant 1949; Captain 1953; Major 1960; Lt. Colonel 1965; Colonel 1971. And then he worked with the Defense Investigative Service (DIS) until I retired on my 55th birthday, 24 Mar 1980.

Reid and Jane were the parents of seven children. Dan, born at Fort Ord, California; Mark and Wade born in Austria, and Brad, Lane, Stacy and Chad born in Salt Lake City. The family lived at 3261 Millcreek Road in Salt Lake City for nearly 30 years.

As a couple they served three missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and ended up staying in southern California. Reid served as Bishop of the Anaheim 1st ward.

Probably the hardest part of his life was these last 6 months, being without his beloved sweetheart, Jane.

He spent his last days with family and friends and often singing one of his favorite hymns, Count Your Many Blessings.

Reid died in peace on November 19, 2012 at the age of 87 with his daughter, Stacy at his side and Jane on the other side.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 30, 2012 at 1:00pm at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, Salt Lake City, where freinds and family can visit 11:45am - 12:45pm prior to the service. Interment at Elysian Burial Gardens.
