Lynn Hanson McNeill

Lynn Hanson McNeill, age 81, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2024, in Murray, Utah. He was born on April 17, 1943, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Lawrence A. McNeill and Ione Hanson McNeill, fourth of six children. 

 

Lynn grew up on Windsor Street in Salt Lake City, Utah. His job as a boy was to start the wood burning stove every morning to heat the house. He attended East High School, and though did not graduate, later received a GED. Two streets away on Lake Street lived Joy Lynn Truman, who he took a liking to. He joined the Air Force at age 17, then married Joy while on leave on May 1, 1964. 

 

They began their life in Great Falls Montana, where Lynn was stationed during the Vietnam War. After his original commitment to the Air Force he joined the reserves and served until his retirement. He achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. Professionally Lynn worked for the telephone service (Mountain Bell, later US West).

 

Lynn and Joy had 4 children, who they raised in Salt Lake City. He took them hunting and fishing regularly and supported their youth sporting events. Many memories were established during these outings. Pinedale Wyoming was a favorite fishing destination. Chalk Creek and the Manti La-salle mountains were favorite big game hunting destinations. Montana for pheasants. Lynn enjoyed bowling, softball, golfing, playing cards, music and singing. His children loved his rendition of “Oh Holy Night” at Christmas time.

 

Lynn and Joy were divorced in 1996. Lynn later married Linda Marie Stanchfield on July 12, 2001. Upon retirement, He was a member of the American Legion and served those in his community.

 

Lynn is survived by his children, Todd (Michelle) McNeill, Timothy (Becky) McNeill, Kimberli (Miguel) Cisneros, and Jason (Heather) McNeill, 22 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, and his sister Vicki (Bob) Nelson. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Linda, his brother Lawrence (Vaunile) McNeill, and sisters Marilyn (Al) Meisel, Joanne (Bryce) Hansen and Pam (Phil) Krum.
