Madelaine Peterson Perkins

Madelaine Peterson Perkins passed away peacefully on April 3, 2023 at the age of 91.  Madelaine was the oldest of 5 daughters, born on May 22, 1931 to Norwegian immigrant parents Walter B. Peterson and Haldis Andrea Andersen Peterson.  She grew up in Salt Lake City and married Clarence J. Burton (later divorced).  They had two daughters; Dana and Lisa.
Among other talents, Madelaine was a self-taught and accomplished pianist and vocalist.  She played for the Scandia Male Chorus, a favorite memory and time in her life.  She loved music and any opportunity to attend concerts and the symphony.  She played the piano until she was well into her 80’s, serving wherever needed.  As a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day saints, there was always an opportunity for service.
With her marriage to Clarence, Madelaine entered into what would be 60+ years of service to the deaf community as an interpreter.  She loved serving the deaf community and made several lasting friendships there.  During her career she was an Executive Secretary for over 40 years to Robert Pedersen.  Her association with the Pedersen family blessed her life and her family’s lives greatly.
Madelaine married Lloyd H. Perkins in 1976 and with that union came four bonus children; Dean, Kerry, Susan and Patty who she loved dearly.  During the next several years, 14 grandchildren 38 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren were added.  Lloyd passed away in 1999, not long after he and Madelaine served a full-time mission in Norway.  She loved and missed him every single day.
Madelaine is survived by children; Dana Anderson (John), Lisa Woodbury (Brian), Kerry Perkins (Connie), Susan Perkins, Patty Whittaker (Mark).  She is also survived by sisters; Lyla Lapp, Diane Christopherson, and Myrna Duncan.  She was preceded in death by parents; Walter & Haldis Peterson, husband; Lloyd H. Perkins, sister; Karen Jacobsen and bonus son; Dean Perkins (Carol).
Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Chapel 768 East 700 South, Salt Lake City. A viewing will be held, Tuesday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Memorial Murray Mortuary, 5850 South 900 East, and again at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
