Marcella Kidd Poulton passed away Monday October 17, 2022, at the age of 99, or as she would say, in her hundredth year. Marcella was born October 7, 1923, in Rigby, Idaho, the eldest child and only daughter of Hobson Kidd and Elgy Whittle. She married LaMarr W. Poulton Nov. 19, 1948, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and their marriage was one of continuous love and devotion. They complemented each other perfectly.
Being born premature at 6 months also gave her a strong determination, and there was nothing she set her mind to that she did not accomplish. Her organizational skills and her knowledge of bookkeeping were a great help in the success of their insurance agency. She had a beautiful voice, was a talented seamstress, an amazing cook and charming hostess.
Even with her devotion to help in their family business her children always came first. She worked late into the night folding laundry, canning, and catching up on book work so she could spend waking hours with her children. Mom was always there for us no matter what the circumstance and was always our advocate. She taught us to love each other, to be patient with each other and to want the best for each other. Mom often spoke of living a “charmed” life. It was because she made it charming.
Alone for 37 years after dads passing, she enjoyed the association of wonderful friends. They traveled together, laughed together, shared confidences, sorrows and rejoiced with one another.
Mom was a woman of grace, strength, and testimony. She served as a 23-year-old sister missionary in the Eastern States Mission. Our earliest memories are of Mom telling stories of her mission. She was an unwavering support to her husband in his church callings, including bishop, stake president and regional representative. She also served with him as he presided over the Scotland Edinburgh Mission from 1978-1981. After his early death when she was just 62 years old her influence was felt as she served in numerous callings which included, stake relief society president, and nine years as a coordinator in the Salt Lake Temple. Her family witnessed that during her many years upon the earth, she sought to remember her Savior Jesus Christ and endeavored to always do his will. She leaves behind a testimony that is unshakable.
Marcella is survived by her children, LaMarr Steven (Andrea), Craig Kidd (Diane), Marcella Kay, (Michael) McPhee, Denise, (Doug) Back, and Gary Kidd Poulton, her 15 grandchildren, and 36 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, her parents and two brothers, Mardee, and Val Kidd, and her brave infant great grandson, Graham Harman.
Our family would like to pay tribute to Marcy McPhee, Denise Back, and Gary Poulton for the exceptional and tender care they offered our mother during her time of diminished health.
