Margaret "Debbie" Stacey

Debbie Stacey was born in Olympia, Washington, on May 14, 1951, to James and Ila Nipper. She was the third of four children, with two older sisters and a younger brother. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Debbie passed away on September 12, 2026, after a long struggle with vascular dementia.

During her childhood and teenage years, Debbie lived in both Olympia, Washington, and Salt Lake City, Utah, because of her father’s work, although most of those years were spent in Olympia.

After graduating from high school, she attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho, where she received an associate degree. She then attended Brigham Young University in Provo, where she majored in voice and considered pursuing a career in education.

It was at BYU that she met her husband, Russ Stacey. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on August 3, 1973.

During their married life, Debbie and Russ lived in several cities and towns throughout Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming. In many of the stakes and wards where they lived, Debbie was called to serve in a variety of Church callings, including countless times as both a stake and ward choir director. She had a great talent not only for singing herself, but also for helping others find their own voices. While living in West Jordan, she also had the privilege of serving as her ward’s Relief Society president.

Her desire to be a mother was fulfilled in July 1979 when Adam joined Debbie and Russ’s family while they were living in Salt Lake City. Their family grew again in 1983, while living in Woodruff, when Sharon joined their family. Her children and later her grandchildren were always a great source of love, comfort and joy throughout her life.

Debbie had many interests and hobbies. She loved painting landscapes, dipping chocolates, crocheting, and one of her greatest loves was gardening. Her gardening skills were on full display while the family lived in Woodruff, where she taught a lifelong farmer that peas could, in fact, be grown even in that cold climate.

Some of Debbie’s other favorite things were reading, watching romance movies and eating chocolate. Her favorite color was yellow.

She was funny, smart, thoughtful and loving, and those who knew and loved her will remember the many ways she shared those qualities throughout her life.

Debbie is survived by her husband, Russ; her son, Adam, and his wife, Alyssa; her daughter, Sharon Greer, and her husband, Ryan; and her grandchildren, Logan, Jordyn, Noah, Keira and Sienna. She is also survived by her sister, Joyce Gull, and her husband, Chuck.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ila Nipper; her sister, Linda Wilson, and Linda’s husband, George; and her brother, Del Nipper, and his wife, Soni.

Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing on Sunday, September 20, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Redwood Mortuary, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah. A second viewing will be held on Monday, September 21, 2026, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the same location. Graveside services will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Elysian Burial Gardens, 1075 East 4580 South, Millcreek, Utah.
