On August 26, 2025, Mariel Steel peacefully passed away, joining her husband, Norman (Norm).
Mariel was born to Reva & Lavell Webster on January 14, 1936, in Sandy, Utah, where she also attended Jordan High School.
On April 30, 1965, she married her sweetheart, Norm, and together they raised four children: Leonard (Kim), John (Erica), Edward ‘Eddie’ (Jose), and DeeAnn Huffman (Reggie). Mariel was also a proud grandmother of her 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Mariel was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She had a special place in her heart for her two nieces, Georgia and Kris.
Anyone that knew Mariel knew that she didn’t like to be told no or that she couldn’t accomplish something. She could achieve anything that she put her mind to.
She was a talented seamstress that could sew anything. She loved making clothes, curtains, and many beautiful quilts.
You could always find Mariel puttering around the house, working on some craft project. She loved to knit, crochet, paint ceramics, and she was an incredible cook.
She also loved tending to her garden and many houseplants.
She loved all of her critters; birds, cats, dogs, and there was never a time that we didn’t have multiple fish aquariums bubbling in the house. She especially loved her horse Snooks.
Mariel was the original ‘Ask Jeeves’ or ‘Google’ long before they existed. If you needed to know how to do anything, she was always a phone call away, from knowing how to cook anything to how to double or cut a recipe into thirds. Just as long as you didn’t reach out between 11:00 and Noon on weekdays, where she spent time catching up with her dear friend Erica Kane, watching All My Children.
She lived her last four months at Riverway Assisted Living and Memory Care, and our many, many thanks go out to them for all their kindness and loving care in her last days.
