Marilyn Hayward Beck Swenson

June 21, 1924 - February 4, 2015 Marilyn Sylvia Hayward passed peacefully in her sleep at CARESource Residence in Salt Lake City, Utah. Marilyn was born in Guide Rock, Nebraska, to Ida Gladys Page and Merrill Abram Hayward. She was raised in Grand Island, Nebraska, graduated from high school at age 16, and was a clerk typist in the County Judge's Office. In Salt Lake City, she was employed by the Telephone Company, Freed Finance, and was an audit clerk for Prudential Federal Savings & Loan. Married Spencer Beck in the Salt Lake Temple. Later divorced. Married Elmer Swenson who passed away in 2008.  Marilyn is survived by daughters, Sylvia (Jim) Mathis, Beverly (Bruce) Jones, Julie Jolls (Ralph) LeHew, son, Ron, stepdaughter, Carolyn Brown, 23 grandchildren, and 41 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 4 brothers, 3 sisters, grandson Kelly Wayne Cutler, and infant great-grandson Weston Grant Gibby.  Marilyn was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was loved by members of the East Mill Creek 1st Ward. She devoted many years to genealogy and had temple work completed for hundreds of ancestors. She met life's challenges with courage and faith. Until we meet again . . . and we will . . . we will miss you, "Grandma Buttons"/"Grammee."


Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, February 12, 2015, at the East Mill Creek 1st Ward, 2702 E Evergreen Ave. (3435 S). Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday evening from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, and at the church on Thursday morning from 9:30 to10:30am prior to the funeral. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
