Marinus Jay Wells

Dec 24, 1947 — Jul 12, 2026

Salt Lake City, Utah

Marinus Jay Wells, lovingly known to many as Jay, passed away on July 12, 2026, in Salt Lake City, Utah, after a long and courageous battle with dementia. Born on December 24, 1947, in Salt Lake City, to Stanley Leroy and Faye Christensen Wells.

Jay graduated from Granite High School, where he laid the foundation for a lifetime of learning and service. He furthered his education at vocational school, specializing in Heavy Diesel Mechanics—a skill that set the course for his professional journey. For three decades, Jay devoted himself to his career at Kennecott Copper Mine.

Outside of work, Jay found profound joy in the natural world. He was passionate about fishing and camping, spending countless cherished hours beneath open skies. An avid gardener, he nurtured life wherever he went, cultivating not only plants but also lasting connections with those around him. Jay’s compassion extended to the animal world—he was known for loving animals and always feeding strays, a gesture emblematic of his gentle and generous spirit.

On May 16, 2026, Jay and JoNell were sealed in the Taylorsville Temple for time and all eternity, a sacred commitment that underscored his unwavering testimony of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His spiritual conviction and quiet devotion served as an example to family, friends, and all who had the privilege to know him.

He is survived by his wife, JoNell; his daughters, Kimberly (Lee), Tiffany (Mark), Kara, and Holly (Matt); and his sons, Jay (Paula), Brian (Alexi), Jeremy, and Jeffery (Kirsten).

Jay’s journey was touched by the loss of those dearest to his heart. He is preceded in death by his beloved son, Jay Wells; his father, Stanley Wells; his mother, Faye Wells; and his brothers, Fred and Roy Wells.
