Marion Lorraine Sutherland

Marion Lorraine Sutherland passed away peacefully in her home on January 20, 2026. She was born on May 23, 1938, in Wethersfield, Connecticut, to Claude Rexford Oliver and Edith Irene Gilmore.

Marion married Arthur Abbot Sutherland, to whom she was a devoted and loving wife. Because of Arthur’s extensive work-related travel, Marion often carried the responsibilities of both mother and father, providing steady love, guidance, and care to their daughters during his absences.

A lifelong pianist, Marion shared her musical gifts generously. She worked for several years as an accompanist for ballet classes at the University of Utah, drawing upon her own extensive dance background to provide music perfectly suited to each exercise and movement.

Marion was also a passionate dog lover and supported dog welfare organizations throughout her life, always advocating for compassion and care for animals.

Friends remember Marion as a true social butterfly. She delighted in connecting with others and was known for knocking on neighbors’ doors, eager to be welcomed in for a friendly visit and conversation.

Marion’s ever-present smile, warm heart, and friendly spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
