Marion Brown West

Marion returned to her heavenly home on July 2nd, 2025. Marion was born in her home on September 2nd, 1931, the daughter of William Brown and Flores Lorna Petersen. She grew up on Iola Avenue in Salt Lake City Utah. Marion lost her hearing at age 2 and one-half due to a high fever associated with red measles.

Marion attended school at the Utah School for the Deaf in Ogden and her last year as a senior at West High School in Salt Lake City. She attended Gallaudet College where she attained a Bachelor of Arts degree in education. Many have remarked that she was a natural teacher.

Marion married her college classmate Earl Aloysius Malloy on July 9th, 1954. They had six children: William Earl, Eric John, Marianne, Glenn Edsel, Kathleen and Alvin Cecil. Marion and the family moved about the country with Earl’s employment; first in Washington DC, then to Las Cruces, New Mexico, finally to Santa Clara, California where Marion spent most of her time raising the family as a full-time mother and home maker.

Later Marion and Earl divorced on December 31st, 1985. Following the divorce, Marion taught disabled youth for the County of Santa Clara. She worked for the Federal government totaling twelve years between the Rural Electrification Agency, the US Navy, and the Bureau of Land Management

After moving to South Jordan, Utah in 1989 to begin work with the BLM, Marion married Varian LaVearl West on March 30th, 1991. Following Varian’s passing on March 29th, 2005, Marion moved into an apartment in the basement of son Eric where she lived 20 years before passing.

Marion was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served in many positions in the church throughout her life.

Marion is preceded in death by her father and mother, step-brothers Harold Henrietta and John Hicks, step-sisters Vivian Hembrough and Marvella Freestone, and daughter, Kathleen Angelo. She is survived by niece Janet Madison and by sons Bill (Deborah), San Felipe, Baja California, Eric (Linda) South Jordan, Utah, Glenn (Penny) Greenwood Village, Colorado, Alvin, Poulsbo Washington, and daughter Marianne, Spring, Texas. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held at the Redwood Memorial Estates mortuary from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, July 24, 2025. Funeral services will be held at the Bennion Stake Center (6250 S 2200 W Taylorsville, Utah on July 25th at 11:00 AM with a viewing held at the church prior to the funeral from 9:00 -11:00 AM. Burial will take place at the Redwood Memorial Estates mortuary directly following the funeral.
